Madonna's plan for nuclear waste

An article in the Times today:

Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie have been lobbying the government and nuclear industry over a scheme to clean up radioactive waste with a supposedly magical Kabbalah fluid.

The couple, both followers of the Jewish spiritual movement, approached Downing Street, Whitehall and British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) promoting a "mystical" liquid tested in a Ukranian lake.
"It was like a crank call... the scientific mechanisms were just bollocks, basically," one official said.
But civil servants at the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and scientists at BNFL were obliged to take the celebrity couple seriously.

I just have to interrupt for a moment to ask "Why?

The lobbying, which took place a few years ago, was part of a campaign by Madonna, who saw it as her mission to rid the world of nuclear waste(bolding mine)

Her mission. Wow. She sounds pretty serious. But then, later on in the article we get this...

A spokesman said "I have spoken to Guy's office and I don't think he is going to be available to talk about this. I don't think it's at the top of the list of things they are working on at the moment."

You see? That's why the world is going to hell in a handbasket. We need our celebrities to stay focused if we're going to end suffering for ever. Hopefully they're working on some other important development. Like stopping global warming by ringing little bells.

I grew up in DC. Andy celebrity that showed up to talk to Congress, VIP treatment. I remember the actor from some dumb cop TV show getting to speak about "crime". It was a comedy show "Barney Miller".

One devotee has described how Berg leads chants of “Chernobyl” and the names of other nuclear power plants. Followers believe this helps “heal the problem of nuclear waste”.

Undercover reporters who attended a Kabbalah Centre dinner in London described how Madonna and Ritchie were among guests who turned east towards Chernobyl and began shouting its name.

Some Kabbalah followers are even said to believe that nuclear waste is the cause of the Aids epidemic.

Madonna was not available to comment because she is on tour in Germany.

The Kabbalah Centre is believed to have sponsored Oroz, a “23rd-century” research body in New York that heralded a “breakthrough” in neutralising radioactive waste.

Dr Artur Spokojny, the director of Oroz and a Kabbalah follower, is said to have developed a “revolutionary” decontamination agent called Orodyne, which can reportedly also treat gynaecological problems in cows and sheep. :boggled:

The Oroz/Orodyne website is giving me a "Unable to find server"; however, Googling "Artur Spokojny" turns up this very interesting website. (http://www.wholeheartcenter.com/About.html) Apparently he's a cardiologist who left the Cath Lab at Cornell in 1996 to found his own "alternative" medicine clinic, doing acupuncture and an assortment of alternative herbal therapies, along with (he says) traditional medicine, to treat, well, basically everything that could possibly go wrong with you.
Digestive disorders, Hypertension, Diabetes,
Toxicity - Allergies, Liver and Adrenal exhaustion
Stress Related Chronic fatigue, Auto-immune disorders,
Migraine and other headaches, anxiety and sleep disorders
Whew.

Magical radioactivity detoxifying potions are not mentioned. One wonders how he came to be affiliated with Orodyne.

Beware of big music stars who have "co-writers". ;) Big music stars may only use your song if you split the credit -- and therefore half the money -- with them even if they never wrote a single note or word. But it's a choice of half the credit and half the money or all the credit and no money for your song.

Madonna has only every written a handful of songs by herself.

Maybe nuclear physicists should start trying to use nuclear waste to dispose of Madonna's films.
