View Full Version : TAM5: Need a Roomie take a Roomie, Have a Roomie leave a Roomie . . .

This might be a little too early but I didn't see any threads organizing Roommates for TAM5. I'm not saying I want to organize everybody but that we should be able to self-organize. :)

At this point I am looking for a roommate, however, that could change in a month. But I'd rather start planning this sort of thing now. I do plan on reserving a room then being reimburse. (That's what credit cards are for . . .right?)

There are others that may wish to have a roomie. I would suggest posting your desire here to keep it in one thread. I just wish there was a way to keep a updated list so everybody would know who does and doesn't have a roomie.

I'm male and a non-smoker. I will be flying in from Dallas, TX and will be there Thursday 18th through Sunday 21st. I will possibly increase the date range as my work schedule solidifies.

I am male, non-smoker. I don't know exactly when I'll be flying in or out, but you'll only have to reminburse me for the nights you use.

I don't really need a roomate. I can afford to stay by myself. But, I am willing to share with anyone else who can not do so.
I'd prefer reserving a room with separate beds, no matter what your gender is. (We can always ignore the second bed, if we mutually decide to.)

I just reserved a room for 5 nights (Check in Thursday, check out Tuesday). I got it through Expedia, at $84/night. So if somebody wants to room with me, I just need $42/night plus half of whatever taxes they add on.

Oh yeah, I'm a male non-smoker, but smoking doesn't bother me. Send me a pm. Preference given to hot skepchicks. ;)

I just reserved a room for 5 nights (Check in Thursday, check out Tuesday). I got it through Expedia, at $84/night.

Two words of warning about not booking the JREF rate:

1) There are three classes of rooms at the Riviera. They differ in size, and amenities. The JREF rooms are the highest quality (Deluxe), while I believe that the Expedia ones are the lowest (Standard). Some details on the differences can be found here (http://www.rivierahotel.com/roomsreservations_roomdetails.html). Additionally, since the towers are segregated by room type, you will certainly wind up in a different building than most of the attendees, and likely have a much longer walk to the convention center.

2) It appears that the contract that the JREF has includes an attrition clause and unless JREF gets a certain number of people to sign up at the convention rate, they will be charged a penalty for the shortfall. You may cause the JREF to spend *more* than the few dollars that you save.

I'll probably contact someone who's already posted, but here are my credentials...

Male, non-smoking, vaccinated, doesn't bite, light sleeper (no snoring allowed, hehe), shy, bright and mexican.

If I could hook up with someone who knows people from the forum and can take me under his wing, I'd appreciate it. Not very good with the Ice breaking sutff.

It is still early, methinks. I searched for when last year's registration closed date was, but it must have been an annoucement. Hopefully all the rooms will fill up. Maybe Jeff or Linda could post an update on the registration.

Thanks for your kind words, I hope I can fit in. English is not my first language so I tend to be serious when talking. But I hope that I can feel comfortable being around people I have very high regards of.

This is insane, being around the like of Randi, Shermer, Penn & Teller... and everyone here at the forum which I have been reading since my incursion in the world of skepticism, just fantastic!!

I have now reserved a room Arriving Wed. 17th and Departing Mon. 22nd. I am looking for a roomie willing to split costs 50/50 including taxes and fees. Sharing for more days is preferred but partial is fine provided you stay at least 3 days. Just in my estimation is looks as though it is about $101 per day after fees and Taxes. If you are interested send me a PM.

Skepchick or Skepdude roomie doesn't matter to me. I am a nightowl so there is a very good chance I will be awake at anytime. If you're an early riser that doesn't bother me and may be preferred. If I get more then one potential roomie I will make a decision based on factors such as duration of stay, scheduling, etc. . . When I get a Roomie I will make another post in the Thread. Hi Mr. Stephen,

To send a PM, click on the name of the user You want to contact. A menu will appear. The second option on that menu should read "Send a private message to <USER>".

To read any reply to a PM, You would enter Your USER CP (On the top menu of the page, just bellow the word James in the header image). After entering into Your User CP, You should see at the left hand side a link called "List Messages" in a section called "Private Messages".

Hope to see You at TAMV!

I'm also still looking for a roomie. I've not yet finalized my flights, but I'm trying to go for a Tuesday arrival (16th), and staying probably 'till either Monday or Tuesday the week after (22nd or 23rd). I hated having to rush out of the Monday night dinner to catch my flight last time, so if I can't find a flight very late at night on Monday, I'll probably stay another day and leave on Tuesday.

I also realize that since this is probably much longer than everyone else will be staying, I'll have to consider only having someone share from Wednesday - Monday or something like that.

Oh yeah, non-smoker, male. And I have been told I only snore a little when I've had a lot to drink, which should probably limit snoring to Saturday night.

Okay, a while ago, wollery and I decided to room together. There's only one problem though, having booked the rooms at the special TAM rate, it appears you can only book the room for 6 nights (Tuesday 'till sunday night). That leaves both wollery and me looking for a solution for Monday night (although one week apart).

So, does anyone who's planning to arrive sooner have space for wollery on the 15th?

And does anyone who's staying longer have space for me on the 22nd?

I'm coming in from Los Angeles (Pasadena), so if anyone wants to carpool around those dates, that would also be great - save some money and gas - regardless of whether you also want to share a room.

Just a couple notes: since Puggy and Kochanski would prefer roommates of their own gender and hawkeye is female (I think) and wowbagger is male, a possible switch might be discussed among the participants.

Also, while I hate to sound overly suspicious, some folks have only posted in this thread (and I have not found a listing for Merko's roomie in the Forum membership) and nowhere else on the board and are unknown. I am sure that they are good and trustworthy and noble people, but...trade some PM's first.

I can vouch for Stimpy as being a good guy and a past TAM attendee.

And as for me, I already have a roommate--and I already have the earplugs... ;)

My work here is done ...

As far as rooming goes, I suggest Crucifixio talk to Stephen Uhl, Stimpy has a word with hauteden, and jeff h and evilknee seem to match up very well too.

And let us know when you've reached an understanding, so we can adapt the list.

Stimpy, do you already have a room? Or are you still looking for a room to stay in? In which case I'd say you're in the same boat I am (i.e. needing a place for Monday night).
Perhaps, you could even stay with Hutch and me, if you don't mind sharing a bed with another guy (probably me) that night, ... But that's only necessary if we can't find any other forumites who are staying until Tuesday and have a room mate who's leaving earlier.

Exarch: jeez, pimping out my room on Monday already? YOu bet stimpy and you can share a bed, last male I slept in the same bed with was my brother when I was 14...:D ;) :p

PS--stimpy, you're welcome to share Monday if nothing else turns up.

When we had our senior year trip to the States (wow, has that been ten years already?), they divided us all up in groups of 4, and put us in rooms with two double beds similar to the ones in Vegas. It sure made staying in hotels mighty cheap, even right smack in the middle of Manhattan.

I finally booked a flight into vegas, due to some work constraints I had to change the dates a little bit. I'll now be flying in the morning of the 18th and leaving midday on the 23rd. AKDave, if you're still up for rooming, send me an email and let me know what I'll owe you and I'll get you some monies, hopefully around the first. If you've already got another roommate lined up, then I'll try and get hooked up with someone else that's gonna be in town the same dates.

Yes, Puggy and I are set with a third person. I think we are cool with three people in the room. If someone really is left out with no place to stay, we could take on a fourth (male would be ideal).

Well, for the time being, it seems that duration-wise you're my best match. We'd each have only one or two nights alone in the room, so that's not too expensive.
Whoops, haven't looked at this thread for a while.

Athon & I are sharing a room but I think Athon doesn't arrive until the 17th, which means I would be able to share a room with Wollery on the 15th. I'll double-check with Athon to see when he's in Vegas, I don't think he had finalized his travel the last time we were in touch.

I already have the room, but I got it through Expedia in combination with my flight, so it is not in the same place as the special rooms for the meeting.

Help! I've got no money until tomorrow and the room rates expire today! I waited too long!

I'm female, 26, staying Thurs, Fri, and Saturday nights. I'm not a smoker, but I don't mind sharing with someone who smokes and I do plan on drinking at TAM 5.

This is my first TAM and I'm really excited, but I don't really know anyone going. I'm quite new to the skeptical community and I haven't posted before.

I hope it's not too late, or I might end up in the lobby of the Riviera with a sign saying "Can I sleep on your floor?"

Since I got my tickets all in order today I am as well a bit late with looking in to getting a room. I would not mind sharing since I need to save some money to buy books.
I am a non-smoking male and will arrive on Tuesday 16th and leave on Sunday 21st.
If anyone has a room they would like to share PM me!

I'm trying to not go "HEY MAN WHY DON'T YOU LET ME CRASH IN YOUR PLACE" and butt in. I'd rather someone contact me and say "Hey dude, you're welcome to crash with us" than half-bully my way in on someone that might not want to share their space with me.

I am a Male who only smokes when he gambles and snores exceedingly loudly. I will be driving in late Thursday evening, And looking to be back at work Wednesday. I may have to cancel at the last minute as I have a couple of major projects at critical mass. I can afford the room on my own but I am cheap so will share with anyone in the same situation. PM me if interested.

Well, a "no" you have, a "yes" you can get, if you ask.

I'm always worried people will be offended when I ask if I can crash at their place for a couple of days on my way through. It turns out they're usually not.
Saves tons of money on hotel bills, which would otherwise make the trip almost impossible to do every year.

If any lady skeptics are looking for a non-smoking female roomie, PM me. I wound up with a spare bed so it's just me, and I'd be happy to have some good company.

For those people who also think they missed out on the special TAM rate, check this thread (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=71253). You have until January 4th now.

Hutch, would you like to do another update on who's still looking and who's rooming with whom?

Yeah, most people don't mind. Just say thank you, clean up after you (them as well, if necessary), and contribute to the alcohol/food reserves.

Sorry I've been out of the loop - I mistakenly thought I'd receive emails when someone responded to my post but this turned out not to be true.

I'm still looking for a roommate if someone is interested. I'll be arriving Wednesday and staying 3 nights (Wed, Thurs, Fri). I'm going to book a room at the Circus Circus which is right across the street and a bit cheaper - but I can cancel or share the room if someone is available.

Also for everyone's info - the Riviera still has rooms on Orbitz and Travelocity and the rate is lower than the conference rate.

Happy new year.

Jeff

As has been pointed out before there are for rooms inferior to the the block that JREF has reserved, will be in a different building farther from the convention center, and if enough folks fail to purchase a the jref rate, the hotel will charge the jref for the difference between room nights guarenteed and room nights purchased under the jref rate.

I thought I better let everyone know that I am arriving the 16th and leaving the 21st.
I am a male non-smoker and do not mind sharing a room with a person of either sex, smoking or non-smoking as long as there is no smoking when I am in the room.

Well, I just changed my reservation toarrive on the 16th (Tuesday) and am willing to pay half the room rate for Tuesday night rather than pay for a full night.

Anybody with a second bed that is not already occupied yet?

I have a room with a spare bed I will offer up. I was going to get a buddy to come, but it didn't work out that way.

So, I'm in on Tuesday and checking out Monday. If anyone hasn't booked a room and wants in, let me know. I could handle saving half the cost.

This is an official TAM room at the Riviera, booked a number of months ago, fyi.

I am male, 31, single, and short, if any of that matters to you.

I am Steve Bauer from Portland, Oregon, 48 years old, non-smoking male, and I recently received word that my prospective roomie will not be coming over to TAM5. I prefer a non-smoking, non-drinking, non-partying male roomie and will split the room bill in an agreeable manner. Send a private response or go through my regular e-mail, steveb@e-z.net, and let's see what we can work out together. I am very easy to get along with and tend to spend time in my room only for bathing and sleeping. I enjoy the Vegas atmosphere but do not gamble much, and I'd make a reasonable roomie. I'm coming in Thursday at 3 pm and leaving Sunday at 11 AM and will be there Thur./Fri./Sat. nights. SB

Feline, let me know if you are still interested in sharing a room. I have the space, but I need to confirm with the Riv that I have two double beds and not one queen.
