I mean, really. No one can deny that this photo (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap060822.html), published by NASA and taken by the US Air Force, is proof of a holy apparition.
I am touched ...

FSM is real. It's true.
But if FSM is real then Creationism is true - oh no, I've lost track of reality again!

Even NASA calls it an angel. So now we have proof of the existence of angles from a reliable source.
Of course someone will say the photo is fake. But it is not!

NASA calling it an angel is simply blindness to the Truth. Really -- does it look more like wings (with a body the viewer must supply in his mind), or two great meatballs, trailing clouds of glorious pasta? In the name of of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (http://www.venganza.org/), this sort of denial would make our ancestral midgit weep.
In hopes that you will be touched by his noodly appendage, as I have been, RAmen.

Does anyone else think it's a bit sad that something like this, created by nature, thermodynamics, or whatever (I'm sure someone smarter than me can step in with the necessary tech. info here), isn't good enough for people to say "wow, isn't this cool, beuatiful, awesome, etc." without bringing angels and all that crap into it.

The caption under the photo says "The jet that released the flares, a C-17 Globemaster III, is seen on the right." But that plane is clearly coming toward the camera. It looks like they were released by the same plane which the photographer is on.

I must say that of all the possibilities, the smoke does look more like the FSM than anything else.

The plane may have made a U-Turn after releasing the angel.

It could also be that the plane is actually in front of the smoke angel. The angle (pun intended) of the photograph makes it difficult to find a reference.

If the aircraft is in front of the angel then the angel is HUGE.

I saw that, too. Ther Globemaster is clearly behind the smoke, and heading towards it. So if it fired the flares it didn't just do a U turn, it turned back, travelled back a bit, turned again and came back towards the way it was going originally. All whilst the camera plane ignored the actual firing of the flares so that it could get into position just in front of the smoke for a later shot.
I don't buy it. A different aircraft fired those flares, possibly another C-17, with the one we see following behind and the snap taken after the first cleared the frame.

Are you trying to claim aircraft can't do handbrake turns?

Then you see more clearly than I.
That airplane is going AWAY from the flare remnants.
IT is flying away from the photographer. On that aircraft, it is difficult to tell front from rear when standing in front or behind it.

Angel? It really looks more like an octopus or other radially symmetrical creature rather than something we've decided is bilaterially symmetrical.

This photo shows the Archetuthus of Doom. As life arose from the sea, it shall return to it on a date to be announced by Sylvia Browne, when the fountains of the deep shall be opened and we must either go into reverse evolution in a hurry or face annihilation.

Just had a very close look at the photo. The aircraft in the picture was behind the angel. I can just see some smoke from the aircraft that is behind the angel. So it is reasonable that the aircraft did make the angel.
The aircraft is coming towards the camera. Look at shape of the wings. Also I can see the cockpit windows.

As an old Air Force guy who's seen this I think you are all underestimating the size of this thing. Yes, the plane is flying towards you, the photographer is further away than you think. Here is the way it went down:

Also, if you put the plane back where the flares are swirling you can get a better idea of scale.

Presumably it's even larger than that, because the plane is closer to us. Do the windtip votices move apart?

And if it is an angel, it certainly is an angel of death.
