SEQUOIA NATIONAL FOREST, Calif. — Mexican drug growers have been seen walking through this famous national parkland, but they're not going camping.

In the newest battleground in the war on drugs, some of the cartels from across the border no longer bother to smuggle marijuana into the United States. They simply grow it here, on public lands in California.

"They are going into national forests, national parks. And it's a huge problem," says Dave Dresson of the California Bureau of Narcotics.

Where's an enviromentalist when you need one?

If one grows pot on private land, then that land can be confiscated if the pot is discovered.

If the pot is grown on public land, then one does not have to worry about loosing their own land.

Pot growers worked this out detail years ago.

Can't think of a better use of public lands.

There are HUGE patches of forests around here covered in Cannabis. Since I live in North Cali by the mountains every now and then they'll find like 5,000 plants in one area. But the problem isn't weed it's Meth that people make in the mountains on public land.

The people who do it are very crafty, I remember on had like a 200 gallon watering system in the middle of nowhere so they did not have to keep hiking water in.

Also from my undertsanding the "druglords" pay illegal immigrants to sleep in the forest and watch over the plants. That way "important" people don't get caught, while the illegal has no other place to go.

I am insulted by the actions of these drug lords. I support the freedom to consume and grow drugs, but not on publically owned land. Our taxes fund these national parks to cultivate the natural plant life, not cannabis. One should enquire as to how cannabis can overrun native plants in Calfornia, which could be a disaster, especially in national parks which are sanctioned specifically to reduce outside influences. What's worse is that these individuals aren't even tax payers! They don't pay for the land that they're growing their products on; which compounds the illegality and abominable aspects of their actions. They are taking money directly away from tax payers, and I hope they are caught because of this. Private citizens, and much less non-tax-paying visitors/residents should not grow anything on national parks, not drugs, not corn, not even marigolds; recreationally or for profit.

[Edited for grammar, clarity, and to not sound like a xenophobe:D]

You make good, reasonable and valid points ecologically and economically. (Despite my flippant post.)
