View Full Version : Psychic History: Did We Win?

I have been checking the History Channel ever since Psychic History originally aired and I have yet to see it again. A search on the History Channel website only turns up an airing of the original episode at 11:00 a.m. August 30th, hardly primetime.
So I dare to ask the question, did our angry e-mails to the History Channel actually change their minds? Or did the original airing of Psychic History do so dismally in the ratings that it was pulled? Either way I consider it a win for our side. :D

I haven't seen it either, but I'm still upset about their decoding the past and UFO files crap.

I don't think that's the issue here.
I don't mind such shows on TV in the context of entertainment.
Information should NOT be repressed, just plainly presented in its proper context so the viewers are less likely to draw erroneous conclusions.
The main problem is that such shows are often presented in a manner that makes them appear very much like some form of factual scientific documentary which gives them far more credibility than they deserve.
If it was made perfectly clear that such shows were only for entertainment and not to be taken as serious science as if supported by the general scientific community, then it would be more acceptable.
Even then, many people would still fall for the pseudoscience, but at least it would be a more honest way to present it and no one could say they were misled on purpose by the deliberate omission of the information that clearly identifies it for what it is.
People don't generally believe that science fiction shows are real, but some pseudoscience fiction shows look like real science supports whatever claims are made when that is in fact not the case at all.

Why do you hate skeptics? Are you trying to make money by selling something that requires a leap of faith in order for it to work?
