What's this (http://tinyurl.com/nqgse) all about? This is grist to the CT mill. I assume it's all down to the NY Times? What's their agenda? It's completely pointless in a global medium, since people OUTSIDE the UK can send the artictle to those who aren't.
As far as I've seen from ananti-gov website (http://www.blairwatch.co.uk/node/1327?PHPSESSID=146ed1266bd4f171d63aadf76fd4c452#co mment), the gist is that the threat was much less immediate and real than the government made it appear ie the bombers weren't yet organised enough to actually pull it off, and also that they didn't actually know how many aircraft might be attacked.
I have to admit to some suspicion of the massive fuss the gov here made of this intelligence coup, and lots of people here think likewise. Clearly there was something going on, and well done for stopping it, but I don't appreciate the strong implication (blown up by the media) that something was *about* to happen of a catastrophic type if it wasn't. And I'm seriously anti CT. You can imagine therefore how the British CTs are coming out of the woodwork and being believed.
ETA - Heres (presumably) the same article as reported by that paragon of media virtue, the
Mail. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=402627&in_page_id=1770&ico=Homepage&icl=TabModule&icc=NEWS&ct=5)

Good Article BL.
Here is my take on it...
Obviously these guys were planning a terrorist attack, and a big one by the looks of it.
Given the severe amount of criticism the US and UK govts have gotten for what they didn't know or what they let slip wrt 9/11 and 7/7, this was a knee jerk response to make SURE they got these guys in time. Could they have waited longer probably.
Let me ask a question. If you knew there were terrorists plotting to take over planes in the near future, would you want authorities to just sit and wait?
Seems to me they have enough evidence to procecute, which in my mind is the key...get enough on the bad guys to put them away, and then go in an nail them before they can pull it off...

I think the issue here is that the article won't load in the UK for legal reasons. The general public aren't supposed to see the prosecution's evidence before its shown in court. The CTists will of course cry cover-up despite that not making any sense at all.

Anybody else see the stupidity in collecting all the liquids from passengers and pouring them all into the same big container? I guess they don't understand the concept of a binary explosive....

Never for a moment did I believe that this attack was anywhere close to being as imminent as the US and UK officials claimed. I've also stopped believing that the insurgents in Iraq are "on the run."

I see old Mr London Eye still hasn't posted anything since August 11.(Sydney Time)
And now the youngsters are talking armed insurrection!

I'm convinced London Eye is mixed up with these guys.
Am I just falling victim to a kind of CT mania?

I am rather curious as to what liquids would cause a huge explosion.
I would like see someone do an experiment to show that it is indeed possible.

Dear FSM, they are already developing a radical wing? It took the SDS years to get around to that! Everything really is faster with the internet.

NTG also comes in a tablet form, which you can put under your tongue to relieve angina (it is a vasodilator).

I wish them the same success as the Tupermaros in Uruguay. Though heaven help everyone else if they do.

You are free to hunt up binary explosives on the 'net. I am certainly not going to pass on openly this stuff to general public though!!

and , if you handle the real stuff unprotected, you don't have to worry about an explosion, you will be vasodilated to near zero BP and leave us pretty fast.

OFF topic, but...
In the ER where I use to work, there was a paramedic who actually had to be given Dobutamine because his blood pressure bottomed out from doing chest compressions (ungloved...happens in the mess of a rescuss) on a guy they had applied Nitropaste on. SO there in the rescuss room, 10 minutes later, in the bed next to the vicitm, is the paramedic, hooked up to an IV...honest.

At room temperature, yes. It freezes at around 13C.
When the Central Pacific Railroad was driving tunnels in the Sierra Nevada as part of the construction of the transcontinental railroad, they turned to nitroglycerin to speed up the work, which was taking too long using black powder for blasting (dynamite wasn't yet available). To avoid the hazards of transporting it, they synthesized it as needed on-site. Even so, there were a lot of accidents.
Regarding its medical properties, here's a little tid-bit gleaned from the Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitroglycerin):
A recent medical development will include a small amount of nitroglycerin in the tip of a new Durex condom to stimulate erection during intercourse. "The CSD500 condom contains a chemical in its teat, called glyceryl trinitrate (GTN), which is absorbed by the skin and causes blood vessels to dilate."
