I suspect that I am somewhat older than many of you other jref'ers, but it strikes me that my generation, our generation, the "flower" generation, the generation that brought us the "Sexual Revolution" and was always talking about freedom and had so much contempt for our stodgy, stick in the mud parent's generation have turned out to be a bunch of far worse hand wringers than our parents ever were.

It wasn't our parents generation that gave such gems as political correctness. and that same mentality, that same approach to things seems to extend into every aspect of modern existence - an almost morbid obsession with safety and with health and the subsequent "for your own good" sort of regulation that goes along with it. And we obsess over our kids to an unhealthy degree, fretting about every concievable threat however unlikely. Don't get me wrong, safety and health and taking care of your kids are good things, but jesus, where the hell did all of this pathological need for control come from? Where did this all consuming fear of the world come from?

And god knows we are certainly more puritanical than our parents ever were. Sure, we talk about sex on TV all the time and we advertise condoms, but that's just it - there's a panicky edge to the whole thing. My brain hurts. got to go.
