I have remainded on the sidelines of so much of this because I have no engineering background, no serious science background, so little in the way of help to expose the stupidity of our misguided (and in some cases truly vile) 9/11 CTists. I have however read much and thought a lot about why they seem to feel compelled to the position they take.
The more I think about it, the more I think they are just simply too afraid to think that the US could be vulnerable in any way. Too afraid to admit that anyone could harm us, so they would rather believe that it was somehow our government that engineered it, so they can believe in the power of the government and think us still too powerful to be harmed by anyone.
The US has been so safe for so long. The closest we have gotten to war on our shores in recent times was Pearl Harbor. Since that time, the US has been dominant in many things. A super power, seemingly invulnerable to attack, even the Soviets were held at bay for so many years (bombs and mutual destruction did an awful lot of that, but just having the might of those bombs did a lot).
It is so much easier and safer for them to think that our powerful and evil government is playing games with people's lives for its own benefit. Watergate has forever given us a picture of possible corruption at the highest level of our government. Only problem with that picture for our CTist friends is that that scandal, that secret came out and it did not even deal with death and destruction. People did not stay quiet then, evidence was gathered and the truth came out. The media was not afraid to speak the truth then.
Just some of my own thoughts as I reflect on this day and remember the silence in the skies and on the roads that day, the numb feeling in my stomach, the surrealness of the news, the uncertainty, the horror, the loss. And the vigil held for days for the firefighter on my street who did not return that day, who remains among the missing to this day. A reminder I get each time I reach the end of my street and see the additional name it has been given in his honor.
