OK, wasn't sure what forum to post this in but here it goes. This show is one of my guilty pleasures. Tonight's episode featured one of the main characters getting sucked into Scientology. First they talked about "tech" and "reactive mind" but I was surprised when they actually came right out and referred to Scientology. Bravo! I wonder how long it will take the producers of this show to get sued. I'm interested to see how they develop this story line. I'll be glad if a major prime time show talks about the ridiculousness that is Scientology.

I only watched Season 1 of that show, but I'd be up for catching the following ones. It's impressed me too, as has much of what's on F/X.

As much as I love gratuitious sex and violence - seeing a line of blow snorted off Kelly Carlson's naked tooter was more than most shows could dream of getting away with - I appreciated the more though-provoking aspects of the show, (SPOILERS AHEAD) particularly the affair the straight-laced surgeon had with the woman who'd had a masectomy. The conversation after her death between the surgeon and his wife was one of the most realistic scenes I've ever seen on TV. Good writing on that show.

I'm always happy to see someone slap Scientology, especially someone within the entertainment industry. But I've got a lot of episodes to watch before I get to that one without skipping ahead.

I used to love that show. But the ridiculously contrived product placement irritated me out of watching it any more. I know they had trouble getting sponsors because it was so controversial, but to have the characters demonstrating the use of products while discussing their benefits for five minutes...it's just silly.

Still, that crazy Adrian was six kinds of hot.

I've loved Nip/Tuck since the start.

Hmm..I guess I've never noticed the product placements.

He seems to have turned into even more of a man slut this season. Kinky mother/daughter sex, kinky stripper sex, and now a come on by a gay guy that had Adrian a wee bit more upset than he should have been (and thinking back on a comment made by a therapist (played by Brooke Shields) that the only true love in his life is is partner Sean. Hmmm..could hunky Adrian be heading towards a sexual identity crises?

Nip/tuck is a fun prime time soap opera - I'll be interested to see how the whole Scientology thing pans out. They showed Sean's son even being audited with an e-meter and hitting up mom for $$ for Scientology classes.

Love Nip/Tuck. Hate Scientology.

Never noticed the product placements. Probably too busy looking for eye-candy.

Um, no. That's not Adrian. Adrian was the transsexual's adopted son who thought he was committing incest with her, but wasn't, because he didn't know she was actually not his mother (or female). He stabbed himself to death in the second season. Which was such a waste, he had beautiful abs.

I think the actor in real life married Ron Howard's daughter.

The product placement that I first noticed was the idiotic XM radio. When Troy left his blind girlfriend in his car, he gave her a nice long demonstration of how to use his XM radio, and mentioned all the highpoints of the XM radio, and the camera showed several lovely closeups at different angles of the XM radio. At that point I was hoping the XM radio would miraculously restore the lady's sight, because anything less couldn't justify that amount of camera footage.

I drifted out of watching since then, but my friends who watch say there are more products and it's getting worse.

Ah..OK..I got confused. I was talking about Christian. I remember the Adrian character but not what he looked like.

Short. Young. Blond. Muscled. Wears a very tight swimsuit. Walks around in the nude sometimes. Has a habit of making inappropriate remarks and invitations. Devilish smile. Sigh.

Hmm... i haven't noticed the product placement, but now I'm sure I will.

I miss Grace Santiago and Escobar Gallardo from the first season, and Rhona Mitra being in the thrid season was very nice.

Kimber looked like she was on Roids in the second episode yesterday...

Oh yeah, this is R & P... They didn't so much smack Scientology, but it did add to the sense of foreboding around Matt's future. Poor kid.

Are you sure this was intended to be critical of scientology? I watched the episode, and every character critical of scientology acted like a violent wack job the entire episode, while Kimber and the kid were calm, rational, and kind. They may just be using this as an opener to show "this is why so many people are attracted to it but it's really bad" sort of thing, but on the other hand they might be putting it in a positive light.

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but the parent post was quoted in today's LATIMES: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-ca-niptuck1oct01,0,2584961.story?coll=la-home-entertainment

Once Scientology was first mentioned in the Sept. 12 episode, fans have taken notice that "Nip/Tuck" is touching on a subject the entertainment industry generally avoids.

"First they talked about 'tech' and 'reactive mind' but I was surprised when they actually came right out and referred to Scientology," wrote one viewer on http://www.randi.org . "Bravo! I wonder how long it will take the producers of this show to be sued."

Cool I'm famous! :D But I'm a little peeved that they didn't contact me for permission to use my statement. As for presenting a "balanced" viewpoint - I think they're planning to be too kind to Scientology. Why don't they present the criminal past of L. Ron and Scientology? Are they planning to talk about the people that have been harassed and victimized by Scientology? Are they planning to talk about the huge amounts of $$ that Scientologists are required to pay or else sign billion year contracts of indentured servitude? How about the mind control techniques? Hmmm...I don't think you can be balanced when it comes to Scientology - it's a manipulative cult that eventually sucks people dry of both money and individuality while providing temporary, cotton-candy, feel good psychology. L. Ron Hubbard was a nut who was trying to make some easy bucks and then fell prey to his own fantasy.

Now let's see if they'll quote you.
