Ok I might've watched too many movies and played too many plot-driven videogames, but wouldn't be interesting if all of the world's religions had been the creation of a secret society? I mean, 6,000 years of recorded history is a lot of time, and I wouldn't be surprised if some third-party created all of these myths and legends to keep a tight control over the ignorant masses. To gain power and control is easy. You create radically different religions, schools of thought and philosophies and you watch as they fight it off, then at the end you wipe whatever is left and take complete control. Too crazy to be real, eh?

Secret plots, secret societies - and religion for that matter - are very comforting to many people as they explain that which we don't understand and provide the illusion that everything happens as part of a plan.

The concept that one can be hit by a car, shot by a robber, die in a plane crash for NO REASON is scary to some people. They have trouble coping w/ the pace of modern society and the randomness of it all. Hence they take solace in Paranoid Conspiracy Theories (PCT).

That the logistics/mechanisms/(credible) evidence of world control by secret societies doesn't exist is is immaterial to the PCT mindset.

it's simpler than a secret society. Satan won the rebellion, imprisoned God in Hell, then proceeded to write the Bible, the Koran, and founded all the different religions just to set off strife among mankind. Then he sits back and laughs at the "antics" people get into in the name of a Good Just God/God. And the best part is he gets worshipped as God while the real Good diety can only sit and look on in frustration.

That's my story anyways and I'm sticking to it.
