View Full Version : Squirrel Evolution

I have recently heard the claim that flying squirrels prove evolution to be wrong.
Apparently it has something to do with the hip angle between the flying and non-flying types of squirrel that prevents them eating or digesting food at the same angle?
The claim is pretty bizarre but after searching on the Internet, I can’t find any reference to it. I tried to get more information of the people making the claim but it wasn't forthcoming!
Has anyone else heard the claim or know of its origin?

It's bizarre all right. One distinction in one group of living things could neither prove nor disprove evolution. At the very best, it would be one tiny bit of evidence for one or the other (or neither).

I know there is an ongoing dispute. As to where it began I can't help.
It ismentioned somewhere in this site. I found this site while reading up on something else.

It might be something along the lines of the 'Archaeopteryx' , that this all started, then again I might be completely wrong.

Talk Origins has a number of links on flying squirrels. A quicks scan of the results doesn't appear that any of them answer the question but see the results of a search here (http://www.google.com/custom?q=flying+squirrel&sa=Search&sitesearch=www.talkorigins.org).

I’ve read the articles on talk origins before but I can’t find anything about this claim of the angles of the hips preventing eating/digestion.
I was wondering if anyone here had heard or seen a creationist video, lecture or radio broadcast that contained the claim? The people who mentioned it to me were reluctant to tell me where they got the information.
If they persist in their reluctance to reveal their sources I think it’s safe to assume it’s just a case of woo’s making things up to attack science.
