Lil'dick, having an expensive PC is not a sign of superiority - especially since you don't own it.
I'm sure a few people here can EASILY shame your meek little computer - and they bought it themselves.
(Not me - my computer costs about a grand, including upgrades I made. But, then again, I know how to shop for bargains, and it does absolutely everything I want and then some. The only thing I want that I don't have is updated and corrected Nvidia drivers so I can run my 3-D goggles again.)
On a related note - it's good to see Lil'dick upholding the Christian values of humility and eschewing greed...

OOoooh, he's on a $7,000 personal computer. I read that and couldn't figure out what "pc" could stand for that would make any sense in that context.
I was thinking that it was maybe some form of academic scholarship that I hadn't heard of. (You know, something that would actually be reflective of one's intelligence.) But $7,000 isn't that much. Not worth bragging about.

The argument from PC value is a rather complex fallacy found often in competitive online gaming communities. Most arguments posed within the gaming community take the form of an argument from authority, with the authority being established by one’s score (usually as a ratio of kills to death being preferred over just total high score). There exists a narrow range in which this authority is valued, too low of score and your opinions mean nothing. Also, too high of score and you’re likely to be suspected of cheating, again rendering your comments worthless. The argument from PC value, especially when thrown out this early, is often a form of poisoning the well against accusations of cheating, thus preserving one’s authority within the community. :D

I believe the point is that Christian colleges don't suck. And that Union College, in particular (which Riddick attends) doesn't suck. And possibly therefore that Riddick isn't really as dumb as he plays on the internet.
The problem of course is that there are a lot of much BETTER Christian-affiliated schools out there than Union College. 39th best comprehensive liberal arts college in the midwest is certainly not bad,... but it won't compare to Notre Dame or Boston College. Rather like being the 39th best hitter in the minor leagues. It's an accomplishment, but not necessarily one that other people will respect.

Man, talk about misleading statistics and cherry-picking. This "school" ranks 46th in 1 of 4 regions out of 320 total schools over the entire US. That means it could rank well below the average nationwide. And what wonderful things do they rank? Salary of graduates? Research Prestige? Tuition? Nope, they consider things like class sizes, graduation rate, percentage of student SAT scores in the middle 50 percentile, percentage of faculty that are full time, alumni donation rate and how selective they are with admissions.
The school has less than 1000 students. How many large classes do you think they will have? Small religious schools are going to excel in all of these categories.
Read their course descriptions. Their alleged business school only offers two classes in economics, and they are at the sophomore level.

Not quite.
I believe the "average" college in the United States does not even offer a 4-year degree.
Most people don't realize just how badly the US college system sucks (by and large), or how much it's skewed to bottom-feed. They see the success stories of Harvard/Yale/Princeton and don't see how unrepresentative the highly selective schools are. (I think most colleges in the US practice de-facto open admission as well; more than 90% of their applicants are accepted.)
Union College almost certainly better than average. If I remember my numbers correctly, that means that it is no worse than the 2,500th best college in the United States.

Within its grouping, there are 320 schools nationwide. It ranks 46th (about a 4 or 5 way tie) in a regional grouping which is probably about 25% of the 320. It could potentially be as bad as 184th of 320 in its grouping nationwide. To qualify for this grouping, it only 10% of it's degrees have to be bachelor.
Not to mention that the category it is included in would probably fall well into the middle of the pack of all schools.
Often, the best small schools are those that don't offer anything but two-year degrees.

Big fricken' whoop - Windows 1.0 was a joke. You could program better interfaces on the Apple series. The IIGS was my personal favorite. Never cared much for the IIE. Too simplified.
For that matter, I was jerry-rigging Commodore sound modules into Apple boxes and adding graphics chips from trashed out ColecoVisions while Lil'Dick was playing with his Windows crap.

No, actually, my reply was that boasting about a fancy computer to people you don't know is foolish and irrelevant. Quite a few people here could 'own' you on computer resources - and, what's more impressive, they purchased their computers themselves.
Furthermore, one's credibility and personal quality cannot be defined by the expense of one's loaned computer system. That, I believe, was my point.

Quick lesson, college boy: Sentences begin with capital letters. You obviously know how to make capital letters; and it would certainly help your credibility if you would, on occasion, make them when needed.
As for your ridiculous assertions and ad-hominems, they are beneath comment.
I sincerely doubt I, without any education whatsoever, and with a $450 e-Machine Wal-Mart special, impress anyone. Nor do I care to. Impressing others is a sign of insecurity and self-doubt. I am completely sure of myself, and therefore am usually not prone to boasting to impress others.
Your comment about being on a $7000 computer can really be seen as nothing but boasting. It was juvenile, at best.

It sounds to me like Riddick is desperately trying to compensate for... something.
Riddick - The kind of computer that you bought means nothing - it is just something that you paid for that other people imagined and created.
What have you accomplished in your life? Have you had an original thought? Have you created anything of value, let alone of lasting value?
You don't need to justify your continued existence to me - frankly, my dear... There are those, however, who might wonder out loud whether your 45 years on this planet have been a waste of space, food, and oxygen.
Get your act together, keep your mouth shut until you have something interesting to say, and be open to learning from the world.

unrelated: can someone point/link me to the lawsuit thing which caused upchurch to bow out of jref admin rights?
I saw an error in your post, Riddick. The "unrelated:" should have gone at the beginning.

Eh? Since when was using the words "I" or "you" more than once in a sentence bad English? You attack my writing for not being "deft", whatever that means, whilst your composition is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors.
"Deft?" Riddick, honestly.

It's certainly not anything that requires mod action on this board. But by all means ask the mods, they could probably do with the belly laughs it'll give them.

You'll note that the Merriam Webster definition says "synonym: DEXTROUS". I suggest you look at that word and its derivation. Actually, look at both words, since I doubt that you know what synonym means either.
Your grasp of English is almost as bad as your grasp of reality, I mean who in their right mind would claim to be one of the best waterskiers in the world, and post a link to their website with their name, making it easily verifiable that they were in fact not one of the best waterskiers in the world, but someone who once placed fairly low in an event for locals that ran alongside a world ranking event?
You're pathetic Riddick, everyone here knows it, and no amount of bluster or posturing can alter that fact.

Oddly enough, I was just wondering the same thing about you before I read the above. Your profile says you're 45 but you come off more like a junior high school kid

If you're gay, that's cool 'n' all, I support equal rights for homosexuals the same as anyone else. But you really should find an outlet for your frustrations. Go hang out at a gay bar, take out a personal ad or rent a Vin Diesel movie. Do something, 'cause all the homo-erotic stuff in your post strongly suggests that you're at least bi-curious. It's nothing to be ashamed of, but your denial of your sexual orientation seems to be causing you a lot of stress.
You can reply if you want to, but I won't read it. You really aren't worth my time. Not even as a joke.

Not to de rail an already off track thread, but i'm very very leary of the rankings of universities.
I've now seen first hand, the education at 6 universities and found the quality of education and students had little to nothing to do with the ranking at the university.
i'm comparing Purdue, UPENN, Drexel, Kentucky, Cornell, and New Mexico tech and the schools that had the best education aren't even on the rankings. to let you know my bias, I got my degree at Purdue, ranked ini the top 10 of ChemE degrees at the time.
