View Full Version : The Second Annual Semi-Official Hutch List...
Hutch

....of TAM attendees.
I get these from the "who's coming to TAM" and other threads that I knew about.
If I didn't get your name or you decide in the near future to come, please add to the thread and I'll update it periodically.
And if you don't like the category I placed you in or you think I should have you elsewhere or you just don't like lists...
Hutchs' First Law: It's my list
Hutchs' Second Law: I get to make the rules
Hutchs' Third Law: All complaints and carping will be cheerfully and humbly ignored.
So without further ado...

OK, amend the List to add the Following:
Kittynh--12,391
Patricio Elicer--2,474
Kitten--950
Fengirl--306
Horatius--147
Puggy--19
NOTE: I am presuming that Kitty is bringing Kitten2 and Pool Boy with her and while neither posts here regularly, both are well-known to most Forumites
So we're now up to 81 for-sures (82 if you count rebecca, but she has been playing coy..). Last year I think the total was about 119, so we still have a way to go to meet/beat last years' totals. Let's get after folks to get registered, people!!

We may know by the end of this week. If Mrs Beady gets confirmed as "permanent" in her job, we're going. If she doesn't, it will then probably depend on whether Congress passes any kind of Immigration Reform before the TAM registration deadline.
So, write your Congresscritter.

Put me on the waffles list. Can mine be blueberry?
I'm about 75% sure I'm going, just hafta clear up some stuff with my travelling papers. Hopefully in time.
Backstory? OK. About fifteen years ago there was a guy with a name similar to mine, and a birthday close to mine, who was wanted for attempted murder. Found that out the hard way, trying to cross the border back from Detroit. Name still in book.
(ETA) Sure would be fun, my birthday's the 23rd.

I get a little worried when people talk about sticking "e's" places. But I swear it is supposed to be there. But that still doesn't explain the whole switching of "a" & "u." I'm beginning to think somebody might have an issue with vowels. :D

Seriously, we could still do it if Mrs Beady's job goes permanent; then we can take a longer view of our debt. We were supposed to find out last week, but they put off the decision and, now that it's a new fiscal year, they're not even sure the permanent slots exist anymore.
Hutch can probably relate.

And to think, Beady found my credit card on the beach in Cococay. I think that one has 15 grand available. Bet you're kicking yourself about now for returning it to me, huh Beady? But seriously, sad news on TAM. :( Being recently unemployed (the cruise made me quit!), and seeing as I didn't have any roofs to repair, I was prepared to go into debt on same credit card to make TAM, but fortunately I found a nice new job this week with at least a year contract and a boss who has no issues with my taking the time off. Here's hoping Ms. Beady will fare even better.
Or to quote that venerable movie, Titanic, "Just the other night I was sleeping under a bridge, and now here I am, on the grandest ship in the world, having champagne with you fine people." It ain't over till it's over, Beady. Here's hoping you two will figure out a way to make it.

I thought you were joking about the job thing last month! Blackjack school didn't pan out? Ghost Lady! LOL. I don't know which is worse. That I've neglected posting long enough to be called Ghost Lady, or that I can't stop using the term "LOL". Well, I was joking about the blackjack school, but not the job. I never went back to work after the cruise. Having those amazing conversations with everyone made me realize what I needed to pursue in life. Unemployment. ha, I kid. But I knew if I went back for even one day, I'd end up stuck working 60 hour weeks for another year in a position that was good, character building hard work but had absolutely 0 mental stimulation and too many bug bites, just because it had a great retirement. As of tomorrow, I'm finally back in the uncertain world of the line of work I love (computers), but it's been a wonderful 6 weeks off. Come to think of it, I broke off a six month relationship right after TAM IV. I'm starting to see a pattern here.

I think you're the only other person outside Jamaica who knows that particular meaning of the word. The background of duppyraces isn't nearly so romantic or mysterious. Well, good news and bad ...
My employer dumped over 12'000 Euros on my bank account at the end of last month.
The bad thing is that this was my severance pay.
The good thing is this means I can probably afford TAM5.
The other bad thing is I'll need to have a new job lined up for when I get back, otherwise I'll be in financial trouble again ...
The other good thing is I work in IT and will probably have no trouble finding a new job. Although I'm getting kind of tired of working in IT :(
So Hutch, switch me from waffler to attending. Now all that remains is to register and book flights and all that.
On second thought, working out an itinerary might take a while ...

Hmmm, lets see, that's 77, plus 6, plus 9, plus these ten...Looks like we're over the 100 Forum Members threshold for the second year straight. Not bad people, and somebody bring a wide-angle lens for the group picture!!Also, I strongly recommend that the picture is taken somewhere outdoors in daylight. If not, we will once again end up with a crappy flash photograph.

Add me, Hutch.
And really, I don't have that much of a life. If I don't hang out in the hallowed halls of the learned forum, it's because I'm busy producing curriculum or taking pictures relating to skepticism.
Anyway, I'm in for the whole E-ticket this time. We'll see how that goes. But if you only go to church once a year, might as well do it big.

The Shadow will be there.
I should be arriving in Vegas on Wednesday at 1:30. I'm not staying at the Riviera, but rather a short (medium?) walk away at the Hilton - from all the info I could gather online, I think it suits me better.
Do pretty much all the TAMmers book rooms in the Riviera? Even with the supposedly discounted rate it didn't seem like that much of a bargain. Maybe I'm missing something. Besides, the Star Trek Experience is at the Hilton.

Well, you apparently get one of the nicer suites for the same price as you normally get the cheapo rooms at (for example) Expedia.
Also, it's easier to be close to the conference location when waking up late after a hard party the night before. Also, the parties at night will all be at the Riviera ;)

Do pretty much all the TAMmers book rooms in the Riviera?I've always booked my room at TAM. (1) it's a lot more convenient, I don't want to have a 30 minute walk to/from my room. (2) a convention gets a group rate by guaranteeing the hotel will sell X room-nights. TAM5 has met that committment, so we're safe. If a convention *doesn't* bring in that many, the convention has to pay the hotel to make up the difference.

I once booked a Vegas room through one of the online discounters and wound up with something two floors above an outdoor disco that was open until 4 a.m. Even with the windows closed it was like being inside a jukebox.

Well, here is my next-to-last attendee list. We are at 149 forum posters listed below, and I feel confident we’ll get to over 150, which means we’ll be 15-20% of the audience at TAM5. If you’re a newbie here, just sit down and look who is sitting around you; odds are good one or more will be a JREF Forum member.
I added a couple of more breakdowns, just to urge some posters to post more and try to get into the next category. ;) :)

Well, by my math, that is 45 posters with over 1,500 posts each on the Forum, another 54 who have between 100-1500 posts each, and the third group of 50 with less than 100 posts.
And those of you with few posts; JOIN IN. Some of us will know each other on sight from previous meetings, but you can’t learn if you don’t get involved.
NOTE: If I am missing anyone, let me know soon; I’ll put up the final list about 10 January so Jeff Wagg and Company can do the Forum Badges.

I'm planning to err on the side of caution and kow tow my way out of the presence of any forum regulars without ever turning my back to them.
T'would be wise to never turn your back on TAM attendees anyway.....but exceedingly difficult to acomplish because of the myriad of facinating conversations and things clammoring for you attentions at every angle. Good luck with that.
For some reason my description is making me think of the perpetual motion cat. You know, the falling one with the buttered toast attached face up on it's back? That kinda how I think of a skeptic at a TAM.....it's just unclear how they could ever land at only one interest at a time at any given moment.

Actually, I kind of do know what you mean. There's so much that's going to be going on at every moment that by necessity we'll have to miss some of it. The prospect of that makes me sad.

That's too bad, Renata is one of the people I would have liked to meet (from my years as non-posting lurker type.)

I'm sorry to hear that Renata is not coming. Best wishes to her. We shall have to rely on the organizational skills of others.

You're not in any way suggesting that Renata could be described as bossy, are you, Paul?

Wha?
Renata is the hub; the center of all things TAM (away from the stage). And she knows how to crack the whip while still being an absolute sweetheart. She's got people skills like I've got back hair!
I will be highly disoriented without her. There is no smiley capable of conveying my sadness. I am seriously bummed.

People will have to look at the schedule and self-organize...a challenge for some, but it will have to be. :D

I'm sad to hear that Renata's not going to make it. She was the happiest person to have worked at the t-shirt table that I've ever seen.
BTW, she doesn't need a whip, her accent says "obey or be sent to the gulag!"

All set. I also added the space between the "o" and the "V" that you forgot. There can't be a capital letter in the middle of a word, after all.
Oh wait, is "Disko" like "Mc"?
~~ Paul
I really don't know if it's "Disko" like "Mc", but yeah, most probably it is the "Mc".
I don't even know what DiskoVilante means. It just sounds nice.

I've always read it as a parody of "Deo volante" -- but then I've been cursed with a classic liberal-arts education.

I think I'm sexy enough thank you very much :D
And I'm rather lazy...do I have to put the accents? I know, when I write it by hand (I've never had to) I'll put the accents and the space in honor of you Paul.
