Greetings
I am using firefox on windows xp. I cannot post any kind of punctuation (except . and ; and ,).
Contractions-- apostrophes and whatnot, when I type them, it defaults into the search and replace thingy bar on my lower left screen.
Very weird. Anyone know how to fix it so I can stop saying I am instead of I*m.

I am also using Firefox on Windows XP and don't have this problem. If I type a single apostrophe when the focus is not in a text box, then the search thingy comes up. It used to be the case that this would happen even in a text box, but it would still insert the apostrophe. Are you using the latest stable version?

hmm, weird; it's working now, but it wasn't before.
Ah, one doesn't realize how nice apostrophes are til one doesn't have em.

I have this occasionally too, with apostrophes triggering the search, and I think it comes from having accidentally hit some key combination while posting. I haven't figured out what keys, so find it's easier just to restart FF. If I'm in the middle of a long post and it happens, I switch to quotation marks. I'd be happy to hear from some knolwedgeable person if there's a keystroke combination that cancels the behavior, though.

This happened to me when I switched from the default Firefox theme to Firefox Vista. I switched back and it doesn't do it anymore.

It happens to me too. It's not JREF-related, just some weird Firefox behaviour. I do agree it's probably a keyboard shortcut we accidentally trigger. I'd really like to know the combination key that resets it, too.

For me, the apostrophe alone triggers the search function in Firefox as long as I'm not typing in a text box. The oddest thing though, is the search function doesn't work when it is triggered by the apostrophe. It only works properly when I hit Ctrl-F.

I get this in Firefox, I hit all the F buttons in order til it goes away, I've never been smart enough to take any notice of which F button does it though.
Ill-tempered vixen, moi.

just out of interest what causes the site-crashes (which seem to occur about once a week)? is it problems with the hosting server? malicious attack?
many thanks :)
