i get a ton of spam at work- we have a spam firewall that gets a lot of stuff, but the sysadmin was a little reluctant to crank the settings more because he was afraid it might filter out too much...i noticed on my gmail account, i get almost no spam at all- its filtering seems to get all the stuff that makes it thru my filter at work.

so, i was wondering if anyone used software that was really good for filtering in outlook so i could supplement my filtering at work without annoying the sysadmin having him mess with settings to tweak it...plus i have a feeling our firewall based filter may not be that great anyway. i see gmail uses proprietary filtering tech but maybe there are similarly strong products? there is soooo much crap out there i would like to hear what you all have experienced

You'll want soemthing like this. (http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/) They have a page of links (http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/related.html) to similar programs.

Sorry I can't tell you more about them. I use server based programs (even at home, I'm a geek.)

If you weren't locked into Outlook, I'd say just go with Thunderbird - it has a filter built in.

I've used the the software MortFurd suggested - SpamBayes - for several years as a plug-in in Outlook. I've been very satisfied with the results.

Bear in mind that since it's not using a canned set of filters, it has to have some material to train on before it can start being useful. I didn't have a bunch of saved Spam on hand when I started using it, so I just let it learn on the fly.
