Has anyone heard of Jason Mycroft (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68OMTFuDogY) (YouTube link)? Apparently, he plans on applying for the Challenge...

This was brought up on the forum some time ago.

I wrote a page on the situation: The effect of information on guessing the color of playing cards
(http://www.statisticool.com/cards.htm)

and the simulation shows, with good memory, a minimum score of 26. The average was a little greater than 30.

Of course, it isn't clear how Mycroft plans to evaluate the results. If he is comparing scores to the naive expected (ie. incorrect) chance score of 26 or not. Repeated emails were unanswered.

If you just randomly select a card and no one else looks at it then you could rule out mind reading or good poker skills as a posssibility.

Is it just me, or was that the worst edited video in the history of the world?

I'm pretty sure that's the worst fitting jacket ever filmed.

It's just so ... stupid. Place each card face down, write down red or black, and go through the whole deck that way. Then turn the cards over and compare them to your list.

Not doing it this way is basically just asking for invalidity. Of course, that's pretty much a good definition of paranormal investigation: The intentional introduction of error until the desired result is reached.
