View Full Version : How about something other than 9/11? Was Mary Surat Guilty?

I was just reading Manhunt, and found yet another account of the plot to assassinate Lincoln. Lincoln is one of my favorite historical figures, and I've read many biographies about him. When it comes to the conspiracy to kill him, some underplay Mary Surat's involvement, while others believe she was intimately involved. One book Booth, a historical novel told from John Surat's perspective, made JWB and Mary lovers. IMO it's hard to believe that she was completely ignorant of the plot. Of course, their was a mob mentality in the aftermath of the assassination and no assassin to hang, so in the heat of the moment some innocent actions may have been overblown. However, her most damning action was when she dropped off a cache for JWB and the others at her tavern in Maryland.
Just wanted to discuss something other than 9/11.

I think Lincoln was shot by the badge man.

Oh, i think she dunnit. She seems to have been romanticized quite a bit after her death, which perhaps is not unusual for women of that era who committed heinous crimes and/or were executed. IIRC the evidence against her was damning, and didn't Booth go to her place immediately after the assassination?

lincoln was killed by kennedy, because coincidences (http://www.joe-ks.com/archives/Lincoln_Kennedy.htm) prove conspiracy

Does anyone here remember those "Kennedy Pennies"
It was a penny with a small shillouette of JFK engraved on it and glued to at card listing all the "Coincidences" between the two assasinations.
I remember my brother had one in the mid 70's

Freaky. I need some of those to scatter around before my debate with Fetzer.

He went to her tavern in Suratsville, Maryland. Where she left a cache of weapons and supplies.

I've always said that if a Surat doesn't know what's happening in Suratsville, they oughta swing.

Apparently it was called Suratsville, because they had the only bulding in town.

Thanks, I think. What a horribly tacky thing. I'm going to collect a bunch of them.
