NEW WOODWARD BOOK BLASTS IRAQ WAR

Post to Excerpt New Woodward Book

Excerpts from Bob Woodward's latest book, "State of Denial: Bush at War, Part III," "will appear in The Washington Post beginning Oct. 1 and in Newsweek's Oct. 2 issue."

Interesting point raised in this article about the book's title: "Judging from its title -- it may answer critics who claim he's been too soft on the Bush Administration."

According to Woodward, insurgent attacks against coalition troops occur, on average, every 15 minutes, a shocking fact the administration has kept secret. "It’s getting to the point now where there are eight-, nine-hundred attacks a week. That’s more than 100 a day. That is four an hour attacking our forces," says Woodward.—President Bush is absolutely certain that he has the U.S. and Iraq on the right course, says Woodward. So certain is the president on this matter, Woodward says, that when Mr. Bush had key Republicans to the White House to discuss Iraq, he told them, "I will not withdraw, even if Laura and Barney are the only ones supporting me."

I have for some time suspected that we are only getting "reports" on the spectacular and deadly attacks that kill or wound our guys. Of course, an attack might be some insurgent loosing a magazine-full from his AK in the general direction of a convoy. Still, with the massive number of deaths amongst Iraqi civilians being reported, it's evident that the level of violence is shockingly high.
