So making rounds of CNN, Foxnews, etc. I see foxnews.com has changed format, a much simpler format. But not only that, their pictures, including their logo, are blocky messes, a throwback to low speed modem days.

Clearly they're trying to save on outbound bytes, but the question is why? I know both they and CNN and others have "heavy traffic" layouts because too many people are checking the site out on big news events, but that's definitely not the case. Is somebody doing a reverse of pingbombing them, like directing millions of computers to go to foxnews.com, such that it's been rolled into this new format + crappy pics for several days now?

They are probably taking a lesson from Matt Drudge: content over presentation.

Matt's got the dullest webpage ever, and yet it's one of the most popular sites on the internet. (It's not even truly "Minimalist"... it's just dull.)

Nah, just figured it out myself. I normally control-mousewheel the text larger on some web pages. Foxnews is using a new weird system where not only the text gets larger, but the pictures do, too.

If you set the text size on medium, the pictures are crystal clear. In Internet Explorer, use View->Text Size.

Now what I want to know is why resizing these pictures makes them look so miserable. This isn't 1993. Resizing technology has come a long way...
