View Full Version : Stop Sylvia: A Call For Books

As part of my investigation into Sylvia Browne and her various claims, I intend to read as many of her books as I can get my hands on. I'll be noting seeming contradictions, and following up on any claims I can.
To that end, if anyone has spare copies of any of her books, and would like to donate them to the cause, I would greatly appreciate it. I would be glad to reimburse you for postage.
Before sending anything, you might want to contact me at webmaster@StopSylviaBrowne.com to make sure I haven't obtained the book since posting this list.
Later, I will be putting a list of needed books up on the StopSylvia web site, and will be keeping it up to date.
But for now, here is a list of (most of) her titles.
The ones marked with asterisks (**) are ones which I already have.

Hacienda Heights, CA 91745-6304And before anyone asks: I have made no progress on the site in the past week or two.
I've been busy moving my household (with my three adult children) and my fiance's house (with her one adult son) into a new house. We're sort of an older, grouchier version of The Brady Bunch.
The move will be finished this weekend, and I can get back to my research and site-building.

Sorry, Rob, but I have had no desire to own any of those works. If I see one at a garage sale I may pick it up for you.
I wouldn't give that woman a dime. Not an wooden nickel.

My guess is if you have read a few, then you have read them all. These types of people have little to say, but lots of books to sell. I hope you can bear the tedium.

Sorry, Rob, but I have had no desire to own any of those works. You'd b e surprised how many people have one of her books given to them by someone trying to help them become more "spiritual."
If I see one at a garage sale I may pick it up for you. That'd be great clarsct, thanks.
I wouldn't give that woman a dime. Not an wooden nickel.Understood. I may end up doing so in the name of research, but as little as possible.
My guess is if you have read a few, then you have read them all.Even the titles are pretty repetitive.

Hey I may have one of the books you need. My dad bought it for me as a gag gift, and I actually read some just for humor purposes, she has a list of predictions for the future on the last few pages. Almost all of them are either A.Wrong, or set to take place in the year 2050+ (IE all her current adult fans will be passed away or too old to remember).

Sylvia's having a book signing?

Sylvia's having a book signing?
No, these animals are cute. The Book Barn consists of a big antique barn stuffed with books. It's 2 floors, a cellar and 2 or 3 out-buildings filled with used books. And there are cats, dogs, goats & such living there enjoying the company of booklovers.
It's book Nirvana!

Just got back from the Book Barn. I wandered around, pet the cats and found a couple of dollar paperbacks. Then I asked the cashier "where all da woo at?" and she told me that stuff is at the Book Barn Downtown (their satellite location.)
So I hied myself downtown and... only one Sylvia Browne book in the place. And it was Secrets & Mysteries of the World which is already crossed off your list. The guy said that her books are popular :(
It wasn't a total loss for me personally because I picked up a book by Martin Gardner called The Whys of A Philosophical Scrivener.
I'll have to get back there in a month or so to look again.

You have adult Children RSl? How old are you?
Just think, if you bought one of sylvia's books, you would be able to work that out by using the forces within yourself.
I did and I worked it out. The answer:
RSl is....(think music).. is it before 50 and after 33, is it close to 42? Damn, what about 53? Am I warm.

It may also prove worthwhile to browse the online book reviews at, e.g., Amazon.com for ideas about what people who read this stuff like or dislike, which could serve as a guide as to how to critique SB's claims to maximum effect. Further, the reviews may provide clues and/or additional information not easily found elsewhere, if at all.

Yeah I should have, I didn't think of that. I did have a conversation with the guy at the register though. I got him thinking, I hope, that no matter what he might believe about that stuff, that Sylvia Browne is preying upon people in an emotionally vulnerable state.
He didn't want to believe that there is no such thing as "talking to the dead", but he was obviously open to the idea that Browne herself may very well be a big, fat, money grubbing faker.

It may also prove worthwhile to browse the online book reviews at, e.g.Yes, as I read each of her books, I am perusing the Amazon reviews. They can be a good source, from a couple of standpoints.

You should see if your local library offers the service of letting you order books from other locations in your state. If so, you can probably make up the ones you are missing easily, and won't be giving that bloodthirsty harpy a single cent in the process.

But the trouble with this (I hope I don't offend Library Lady!) is that then I do not have it here on a shelf where I can refer to it when need be.

Howdy, RSL --
My mother-in-law has a whole raft of this crap in her basement. She's often said that I can take any books I want. Of course, I'm in Japan now and she's in Iowa, but I will write her and explain to her what's going on and see if, despite the fact that I think she believes in Sylvia, she'd be willing to mail you some books. Let me see if she's cool with it (and find out what she's got, if she's willing) and I'll PM you.

Harrison may have ghost-written for Browne, but on the books listed on the page you linked to, she is the co-author. Ghostwriters don't get their name on the cover. All of the books listed say "with Lindsay Harrison" on the cover.

I was approached to ghostwrite, so I didn't know Lindsay Harrison was credited. Sorry, I wasn't aware of anyone else being credited with her books.

If anyone "wants" to buy one of her books used (buying her books used wouldn't give her any add'l money), addall.com is a good place to start looking. You can enter a title or author, and the site searches many different used/new sources and displays prices. Here's a Sylvia Browne search (http://www3.addall.com/New/submitNew.cgi?query=sylvia+browne&type=Author&location=10000&state=CA&dispCurr=USD).
eta: Amazon has some of her books (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st/002-4177715-8340034?page=1&rh=n%3A1000%2Cp_17%3AUsed%2Cp_45%3A0%2Cp_46%3Abefo re%2Cp_47%3A2009%2Cp_55%3Asylvia+browne&sort=price&x=7&y=10) used for as little as .47 cents!

Sorry, I wasn't aware of anyone else being credited with her books.Yes, a fair amount of her books (especially the earlier ones) have co-author credits. I get the impression that her more recent ones have fewer co-author credits, though.
Whether this is because she has actually started writing them (which I doubt) or her ego no longer will tolerate someone else's name on the cover, or something else, I don't know.
