OK fair point (I hold my hands up :)) I was using new agers as an example; of course not all of them will believe in the moon hoax. But I know a few who do argue that it was all a hoax, yet accept dowsing and homeopathy without doubt. The point I am making is that I'm confused that people tend to believe certain things without applying critical thought (if they fit with their current beliefs), yet are highly skeptical over things that do not match their belief system.

There seems to be a whole anti-establishment culture growing, of which new agers are but one variety. The medical establisment is one of their favourite targets:

John Ball is so confident of these claims that he has advertised a reward of $100,000 to anyone who can debunk them. As of the date of this writing, however, good faith efforts to take up Ball's challenge have been altogether futile.

In some of his claims about what the photographs tell us, Ball sometimes betrays a surprising ignorance of the broadly accepted historical accounts which he aims to debunk. For instance, Ball notes that the area surrounding Auschwitz-Birkenau was being farmed in August 1944, and he expects his readers to draw the conclusion that the visibility of the camp to outside observers meant that mass murder could not have occurred in the camp.Apparently, Ball does not know that the Auschwitz farms were within a much larger "Economic Zone" under the control of the SS and were worked with prisoner labour.

This reminds me of a radio debate between Phil Plait and some Moon hoax kook (forget his name).

The kook was questioning why no-one on the ground had taken photos of the space-craft enroute to The Moon.

Phil responded by saying he just did a quick Google and found hundreds of images of Apollo waste-dumps taken by amateurs.

The kook asked what the pictures looked like and Phil responded that they looked like expanding clouds of vapour.

The kooks response? "Oh yeah, and that would be really hard to fake!"

My question is, why do these guys ask for proof when they will just write it off as being part of the conspiracy, anyway? :confused:
