Yes, because invoking religion and using a has-been sports figure as a spokesperson in front of politicians is so much better than actually submitting the thing to actual scrutiny. Thankfully, only a dozen people actually showed.

At least my old hometown paper (The Akron Beacon Journal) showed a certain degree of skepticism, quoting a Case-Western Reserve professor.

I note that Mr. Lee needs 1.6M 'witnesses' in 2007 to see his remarkable discoveries....I think I'll pass.
