View Full Version : Would you believe it in trinary?

You can compress information using trinary computers. The RGB channels on your monitor hold 1 byte for each channel in every pixel. So you can view the following image without having to even open up a text file. The only question is do you believe it?

I do believe in trinary. I even know what trinary is (which doesn't seem to be the case with you). The soviets used to build trinary logic devices back in the day.
Whatever you are trying to demonstrate has nothing to do with trinary.
Moving on....
So, you've funneled text into a image file (then jpg compressed it so that the original text will never be recoverable) and want us to declare if we believe without being able to read it.
All I have to go on is who posted it.... let me see, this is a tough one.
Nope, I don't believe it.

Hi Ericka,
I'm not sure what you're asking here. Opening a text file is not a usual requirement for viewing images on the internet.
I don't know what it is you're asking me to believe, but my general principle on belief is that I don't.

This makes me think of those ridiculous CSI image enhancements. You take 1 pixel and run some sort of filter on it, and suddenly you have a crystal clear license plate from that one pixel. Please...

I never heard of trinary until this thread, but here is my understanding...
A 'trit' can be value 0, 1 or 2.
The first (in fact last) position represents 1, the next 1x3=3, the next 3x3=9.
So 222 represents (2x9) + (2x3) + (2x1) = 26. So we can represent any letter of the alphabet with only three trits.
I assume the RGB channels are supposed to represent the three trits. But this means we should find that each channel is in one of three distinct states. The problem is, when I read the RGB values of the pixels, there are no three distinct states:

The image does appear to be compressed to JPEG quality 75. Maybe this has messed it up, or am I missing something?

No. Ericka is trying to make some point or another, but as usual has utterly failed.

I got the uncompressed image by clicking on the one above (doh - its a thumbnail generated by VBulletin). Will take a look at that.

The image content is
The Gospel According to Saint Matthew
1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the
son of Abraham.
1:2 Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas
and his brethren; 1:3 And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and
Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram; 1:4 And Aram begat Aminadab;
and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon; 1:5 And Salmon
begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat
Jesse; 1:6 And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat
Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias; 1:7 And Solomon begat
Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa; 1:8 And Asa begat
Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Joram begat Ozias; 1:9 And
Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;
1:10 And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon
begat Josias; 1:11 And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about
the time they were carried away to Babylon: 1:12 And after they were
brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat
Zorobabel; 1:13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim;
and Eliakim begat Azor; 1:14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat
Achim; and Achim begat Eliud; 1:15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and
Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob; 1:16 And Jacob begat
Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called
Christ.
...
28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 28:20
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Nice. So basically by adding a bmp header to the Gospel of Matthew and changing the extension you have successfully given us a brown noise image straight out of the bible.

So? Translate the Gospel of St. Whootsit into Swahili and then Plutonian and it's still the Gospel of St. Whootsit. Is this just too clever for words(pun intended)!
What's the point, Ericka? We have to play Where's Waldo before get to the question or non-question?

But I'm not sure how this relates to trinary?I think it is some play on the Holy Trinity (Holy Trinary? ;) ) : the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost. The question was after all: "... do you believe it?"
So basically we get a section of the Bible and are asked whether we believe in the Bible. For me, the answer is: yes, I believe in the Bible. Heck, I have seen one (with me own two eyes) !

You can compress information using trinary computers.
Due to the way our current data storage and processing methods work trinary computers suck.

You can compress information using trinary computers. The RGB channels on your monitor hold 1 byte for each channel in every pixel. So you can view the following image without having to even open up a text file. The only question is do you believe it?
Go ahead and try to guess what you are reading.

The only question is do you believe it?
1:15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and
Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob; 1:16 And Jacob begat
Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called
Christ.
Yep, I believe..... I do believe that should have been one of the last bible chapters you would want to trot out (unless you want to demonstrate how ridiculous the bible is). The passage above traces Jesus's prophecy fulfilling lineage up through Joseph. Of course, Joseph never got to boink Mary, so his ancestry fulfills no prophecy at all. Less than useful. And then there is that thing about the other, contradictory, list of ancestors that appear elsewhere in gospels.
16:27For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. 28I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom
And one of my favorite lines of the Bible, part 2.
A perfectly clear and incontrovertible false prophecy.

Trinary (or ternary) is an abomination.
The bible demands that all communication be done in binary.
Matthew 5:37:
But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

Well JLAM, since I don't see flags at the beginning and end, and you didn't seem to do proper 0 bit insertion, I'm afraid I'll have to NAK that undecoded.

Trinary (or ternary) is an abomination.
The bible demands that all communication be done in binary.

Curse you for making me decode that! That was waaaaay too much like work.
And to find such an obvious result at the end!

Yeah, I see what I did. I was so focussed on 4+2+1=7 that I forgot that I started with a 2 from the 32 to begin with. I just want to crawl in a hole.

Geez, you're in a forum with dozens of people spouting insane superstitious drivel, and you're embarrassed about a simple math error?
Ah, I see! You forgot the :D

A perfectly clear and incontrovertible false prophecy.
Oh, come now. Surely there is no such thing as an incontrivertible false prophecy. For instance, you'll notice that ``tasting death'' is left undefined. Perhaps some of those standing there passed on in a manner that did not involve any particular taste. Also, the prophecy doesn't say ``before the coming of...'', but ``before *seeing* the coming of...'' (emphasis mine). So maybe someone there had a dream, delusion, or LSD trip before joining the choir invisible, which would also fulfill the prophecy, right?

Rudar,
What I find particularly funny is that your (obviously) tongue in cheek attempt to invalidate my statement is quite a bit better than most of the serious attempts.
