Gerald Bourke, the WFP's representative in Beijing, said it was difficult for his organisation to substantiate the reports of cannibalism as they were unable to get to the markets.
This sounds like too many other articles from British newspapers. Private Eye calls the phenomenon "aren't foreignors funny?" Might wait until more concrete evidence surfaces before filing this under 'credible'.

First post of yours I agree with. Seems weird to base an article on unverifed reports of unlabeled meat that somehow everyone knows is human.

How timely, what with Duranty's Pulitzer (http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/002/791vwuaz.asp) in danger of being revoked due to his lies about the Ukranian famine.
And here's (http://www.artukraine.com/famineart/jones11.htm) the tale of Gareth Jones, who told the truth about the Ukraine. (no Pulitzer for him, I'm afraid.)
