I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I just found this_thread (http://www.theflatearthsociety.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2739&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0) on the Flat Earth forum and thought everyone might like to take a break from 9-11 for a bit.

Enjoy.

Oh, and keep in mind that dogplatter is entirely serious...

I can't believe dogplatter is serious, but he's kind of a genius. Come to think of it I've never seen a penguin fossil.

The dinosaur government knew about the ice wall too???

....I wonder how many penguins the government needed to create to feed all the Ice Wall guards anyway......

By the way, here are some pages about prehistoric penguins. It turns out they are one of the oldest types of birds we know about.

Awesome, apparently they explain gravity by saying the earth is constantly moving upward. Sheer genius.

Not that I really want to admit how socially illiterate I am, but it took a few minutes of googling and Wikipediaing, before I got that...

Flat Earth Society? That's a joke forum isn't it? I mean, people have seen time-lapse footage of the earth spinning. Round earth explains noon here and midnight half a world away. I just can't fathom people believing this if they have even a basic education.

If it's a joke, it's lost on most of the supporters. Put your brain on standby and look around for a while...

It's really smart people coming up with really clever counterarguments to the argument that the earth is somewhat spherical.

The best one I've read yet on there is there's no gravity -instead the flat earth is constantly rising. Sheer genius!! :D :D :D

Additionally, I have to say that I remain unconvinced that any of them really believe what they are saying. I think they may be goading the rest of us along for their own amusement. If so, I think it's a pretty fun game.

Fred, you are basically correct, the majority of those professing belief in a flat Earth are actually merely playing Devil's Advocate, and most of them have actually stated such somewhere on this board. However, there are a core few who appear to actually believe.

So, while most are just enjoying a philosophical argument, some appear to really believe.

Makes the 9/11 CTists seem almost... no, I can't say it...

Well, I wouldn't say constantly rising. Constant rise would be 0 acceleration, plug that into F=ma and the force holding you down would be 0 as well. The Earth would need to be constantly accelerating at 9.8 m/s^2.

Hmm, let's see. If the Earth started at rest and is constantly accelerating at 9.8 m/s^2, how long would it take to reach the speed of light? 3*10^8[m/s] = 9.8[m/s^2]t => t = 3.1*10^7[s]. Oh, so the Earth would reach the speed of light in a little over 358 days. Huh, is that a new record for a "young Earth"?

Of course, this gets really weird if the Earth is still orbiting the sun and spinning. If I make an Earth centered model...

Ah The FES! Have you read the one about how rain is actually seawater that splashes over the side of the Icewall because the Disk "Earth" is moving in a figure 8?:D

I don't see why the earth would need to be constantly accelerating for the purpose of flat earthers. Their point is not that we are experience 1 G of gravity, as I understand it, but rather that When we jump up the earth comes up to meet our feet. If gravity isn't pulling us back down to earth, perhaps the earth is just rising. I love the beautiful, counterintuitive simplicity.:p

Fair enough, but you can observe the earth "comes up" to meet you at a constantly accelerating rate. If the earth were just moving up at constant speed, when I release a rock out of a fourth story window, the earth should reach it in twice the time it takes to get to the second story window.

Good point. I await smarter minds than I to have a Flat Earth Of The Gaps explanation for how constant upward acceleration can exist without faster than light travel having already been attained in our lifetime.

Ha!

The moon is composed of some highly reflective material that acts like a mirror. The best guess is frozen water or ice.

Yeah, everyone knows absorption line spectra are lies too. Curse the massive secular conspiracy!

The Jesuits were getting DESPERATE because without a rotating earth the theory of evolution falls flat on its face.

Um, I withdraw my comment about the massive secular conspiracy.

This would confirm the idea current in the 1950's that the June Taylor Dancers were on the ceiling and the camera on the floor.

Well, I just gave away my age. Wikipedia that, young whippernsappers.
