View Full Version : Stop this "End Times" talk: God has more in store for us!

This whole talk about the end times, or end of days, is silly. Do you know that President Bush is meeting with some expert on this, coming up soon? I heard this on one of the news channels, and on one of the segments this guest (sorry, I didn't get his name), who will be the person meeting, was on, talking about it.

He said that what is so scary now, is that Russia, who the Bible predicts will be one of the enemies in the end times, is looking like this could come to fruition because of it's ties with Iran! (And here we thought we were in the clear with Russia after the end of the cold war and the breakup of the Soviet empire.) The whole middle east situation...all the players involved, are cited in the Bible, to meet at Gog/Magog...Armegeddon, for the end times battle of all battles. Israel wil be the focus or cause of this, as we all know.

But the fulfilment of religious prophecy can always be SELF fulfilled! And THAT too me is what is scary. People believe in their religious texts (which could be out to lunch), and then could actually CAUSE the end times to occur because they believe in their holy book so much, and may actually help this thing along! Stupid!

So I'm here to set the record straight. Listen up world. God is not intending for the world to end just yet. If God ever had intent to end it all over man's sins, he would have done so a long time ago. No. God is out to show his power to us and to manifest certain things so that we enjoy his glory. There have been great advances over the last say 150 years. And as time goes along, these advances are becoming exponential. We are able to go out into space, but have far from conquered it. God wants to see us go to other worlds! That is why he has allowed us to go into space! You think he'd pull the plug now? Also, look at the advancements in medicine. You think God is satisfied in calling it quits now, at this juncture, simply because we have solved polio and some other diseases, but are still knocking on the doorstep of cancer? And did you read in the paper the other day how scientists now KNOW that we are going to be able to regenerate our limbs just like salamanders can???? They figure in just a few short years (4?...I think I heard) we will be able to do this as they have made great headway in this field and now understand it! And you think God is going to put a halt on his creation, with such stuff in the works? This makes absolutely no sense.

I believe God is manifesting himself in us. And all the mentions of heaven on earth WILL come to pass. But we are going to be doing it all, with God's help, of course. Everything under heaven is possible through God. And it WILL be possible. And the signs are now here because it is apparent that we are going to be able to conquer aging (to what degree is the question), and we are going to conquer more disease, and we are coming up with ingenous solutions to operate on people in ways so that blood loss and oxygen deprivation will not interfere with this process...and are unraveling of the genentic code. Our ability to DNA test...and it goes on and on. Buck Rogers is becoming reality through manifestation of thought and will, adn wil cointinue to do so. In the late 50's movie, "The Day the Earth Stood Still", the robot fixed his mortally wounded master by simply getting him to go into this machine. And such days are coming because whatever dreams are made of, reality sprouts from them! Just like how we dreamt of Dick Tracy watches in the 60's, so those days are now here! And on and on!...to regenerating our limbs? Heaven is nye..and with man on Earth. NOT death and destruction...heaven forbid, against self-fulfilling prophecy.

And you think God is going to allow man to kill himself all because of some religious fanatical loons?

There is a school of thought that positions God in a large lounge chair, with a solar system sized bag of popcorn and a parsec deep pitcher of beer, watching on his Galaxy Brand(TM) wide screen TV to see what the silly humans will pull next. There are also visions of Him rolling about with mirth at the various stunts "we" collectively pull.

Yes, God has a sense of humor.

Consider the platypus, and the scrotum as two data points in support of the assertion.

Silly?

The Millennium cannot begin until the apocalypse. The sooner the better. Some say bring it on. And if I understand correctly, Many Muslims believe in a great and terrible apocalypse and they too believe the sooner the better.

Because God uses a base 10 counting system, and hates big round numbers?

It sounds stupid when you say it.

I'm still working on that. I have to have some reason to live. It's still a mystery. I know that he is not a man with vocal cords and ears and a mouth. If he does have these things, he is somehow both outside of our bodies and within us at the same time, as both our creator and partaker of our own life and all things on earth that have souls and no souls.

God could be classified as being both the beginning and the end. Everything is circular that we see regarding the universe and this could be revealing that God is circular. Space and atomic structure may go full circle and connect somewheres, for all we know. (Sort of like how magnetism goes round and round, in and out.) I think it is currently deeper than we can currently grasp. But this "God" possesses some type of what we would classify as intellect and communication ability to create. On another thread (I believe) I stated the case that one could imagine stars communicating with each other in the way that our brain's neurons communicate with each other, as an example, to show the 'brain' of God at work on some scale that we can't imagine. (Cyberspace like...only grander.) But, a Zeus-like God...a personified God? No.

Maybe it's true. Maybe it's not at all true. Maybe it's partially true. Maybe they got their inspired words from God backwards (like close, but no cigar).

If this apocalypse leads to the demise of most men, or 1/3 of mankind, (as claimed), I can't fathom how this could possibly usher in some grande millenium, unless this savior of the world is indeed a personified being, who singlehandedly can right the course over night. But I don't believe this. This is where I jump ship from the fundies. I believe that a God gave me some common sense, and to me, this timetable of events seems to circumvent my common sense. If there is a true apocalypse, I can only see this causing pain and suffering and great time for the world as a whole to mend, with no just cause. I can't see why some almighty being would allow us to take 3 steps forward in all our gains, but then to take 2 steps backwards (at a world altering apocalypse, in some hope that this will catapult us 5 steps forward?

There are parts written in the Bible where men had agendas for scaring other men, for their own selfish reasons. And I believe this is, or could be, one of those things.

It is God-driven in our hearts to believe in cataclysm and destruction as mankind has been subject to every natural event that has taken the lives of men. So men back in the times of the writers could have been possibly ingenous, perhaps, (if I were to give them benefit of the doubt they were sincere) by thinking that the end of mankind lies in doom, before things could ever get better. I lay awake at night thinking about all these things to see how all this fits the great puzzle of life and the universe.

Maybe living by a sense of justice and morality based on thousands of years of social progression, enlightenment and ethics that started with the early Greek philosophers and getting rid of confusing and contradictory mythologies is a the best way to ensure we don't start an Apocalypse?

It's an idea.

Explain how you know god's intentions. Little voices in your head?

If God ever had intent to end it all over man's sins, he would have done so a long time ago.
How do you know that?

God is out to show his power to us and to manifest certain things so that we enjoy his glory.
How will he show us his power in a way that can't be interpreted any other way? What "certain things" will be manifested? How will humans 'enjoy" god's glory?

God wants to see us go to other worlds!
How do you know that?

I believe God is manifesting himself in us.
What does this mean? For example, what would be different if this was not true?

I have to have some reason to live.

In another thread you said it was all about physical attractiveness and sexual ability.

You've apparently looked in the mirror since then.

"God" has so much in store for us, huh?

I was born with all kinds of defects, I had to have many medical procedures just to function when I was young, and now I am living with a horrible neurological disease that will someday kill me (See this thread (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=66299)). So, I guess that "God" had it out for me live in pain and die young anyways (I am not even 30 yet).

Hmm... God must not have that much in store for me then. I sure hope that God has "more in store" for all of you after he has killed me off with this decease sometime within the next decade. *crys*

If there is an afterlife, then I will miss you. If not, then remember me.

Personally, I find belief in any sort of god or supernatural driving force to be about as silly as millenial apocalypse type theories. Evidence for either: Non-existant, as far as I know. Anything to the contrary?

All the nations predicted to attack Israel with Russia are Islamic nowadays. Coincedence? That the leader of iran has even publicly said he wants Israel gone? Thats prophecy right there.

Iamme, have you found a new bible, or do you just pick and choose what you like from the old one? You seem to swallow whole chunks of it and of the ridiculous creationist spoutings of fundamentalist bible-thumpers, and then throw out whole other chunks of it that don't suit you. Well, I guess you deserve half credit for throwing those chunks out. I am quite willing to agree that this end times stuff is nonsense, and to write off Revelations as a lunatic screed, but if you're going to do that too, a more critical review of the rest might be in order while you're at it.

The Bible. He just said so.

I like the way he said God has more in store for us, then a couple of posts later says he's not sure who or what God is, and yet still references the Bible as though it's a reliable source.

I'm no expert, but I suspect Iamme is confused.

Actually, Iamme is correct, kind of. I believe that the Scythians figure into Armageddon, somehow, and they inhabited southwestern Russia. I remember the Fundies had a real good time with this, back when the Soviet Union still existed (Scythians - scythe - southwest Russia - Soviet flag - hammer and sickle - get it?)
