View Full Version : The More Conspiracy

I believe we are all victims of a greater conspiracy than we might think. I call this conspiracy The More Conspiracy. First let me give you an example.
About four years ago, I bought one. It was top of the line back then, not to bulky, easy in use, fast and you could easly fit two inside of it. It came with a well designed accessory.
It served me well, all these years. But wait! Within half a year a new model came out. It came in two colors, was smaller, and now had room for three. But that would mean giving up space where you normally would put that other part. The number of knobs grew. Also, the accessory was no longer included, you had to buy that seperately.
And so it went, over the years. Nowadays a lot of companies are producing them. Some claim you can even fit ten, but user reviews are mixed, as the parts tend to break. Another company announced yesterday they will start producing them as well, but it will feature less space, but more knobs and the possibility to do other things with it.
And here's where I believe lies The More Conspiracy. Big companies want us to buy these things, knobs and all, stating that their recent products are top of the line. But within half a year, give or take, new and better models appear. Which we all are encouraged to buy as well.
I'm still using my four year old model, and sometimes feel ashamed walking with it outside. But it still serves me well for what I expect it to do.
How do we stop this More Conspiracy? All I can suggest, is stop buying them. Keep using the ones you have right now, until they wear out, and should really be replaced.
Please, tell all of your family and friends of this More Conspiracy, and what these companies are doing. I also suggest never buying anything from that latest company to jump on this trend. Together we can stop this!
With regards,

My guess - a computer!
But I think More has two o's, as in: Moore.

Clearly, this is the work of a broadly-based para-military outfit.
Already infiltrated into nearly every city and town in America, all that is required now is the final decision to attack. They gather in small groups where they can strut for each other wearing their green and brown uniforms.
As they lurk in readiness, they smirk as they bind their unit together with the ritual of fire and... S'mores.

No. The More Conspiracy. As in more = better.
But is it?
Is the one I bought four years ago of less quality than those sold today? The one I have can perform any function one expects from it. It's the manufactures who make us believe that more is better. Like two years ago. When they released models that had the possibility to add other things to it.
Remember the accessory I talked about? The one that came free with the initial model? And you had to buy that seperately with the latter models? That accessory looked 'cool', especialy when you got it for free. But once you screwed it on, the parts got into the way of the button. With a little bit of effort, you could operate the button, but that took away the purpose of the accessory.
Now, how hypocrite are the manufactures to sell that accessory seperatly, even if they knew it didn't add any extra features? In a press release, shortly after the shortcomings came to light, they admitted the mis production. But they never addressed the problem.
Users of the product are therefor forced to buy spare parts to replace the main part if (when) it breaks.

Don't listen to him, guys. He's been bought out by the government to spread disinfo.
Bell, I respect the work you did in bringing this conspiracy to light, but it is quite obvious your now nothing but a shill.
I'm going to start my own forum called "Nerds for Truth". Everyone is welcome to join if you want to get away from this egomaniac, but if you disagree with me you will be banned. Period.

So you don't have any problems with your model? I'm sure you have. Members at the users forum complain about defects with every model. The most common complaint is about that certain bit breaking off. Now, if that isn't happening to make us buy new models, then what is?

Typical ethno-centric arrogant Americans! You're not the only place in the world, you know? Down here we have things coming out each year with brighter colours and more knobs too!
Understand that? The rest of the world has knobs too, okay? It's not all about American knobs.

Give me one example of a bit breaking off through normal usage.
I think your problems stem from excessive fiddling with your knobs.

The phrase you are looking for is planned obsolescense and the concept has been discussed/brought up several times over the last 60 years or so (my lifetime - first heard of it when in elementary school). Purpose is, of course, to make money, maintain jobs, etc.

I think Penn & Teller an episode of Bulls (clap) hit on this. Entitled "The Best (http://www.sho.com/site/ptbs/prevepisodes.do?episodeid=s3/best)".
I was going to link the entire show but it is no longer available on google video.

No, I stopped doing that after my mother caught me once.
I personally have never experienced a part braking off, but read a lot of other user have. They also complain about that part getting replaced. You have to fill out a request form, but obvious that one question on that form makes no sence. Why would the manufactures want to know this bit of info?

I bought something. It had knobs on it. Later I bought another. It's government mind control!
