I hope there's a video of this out there somewhere:
Gibbons' strategist regrets leaving candidate before incident (http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/nevada/2006/oct/22/102210734.html)
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Sig Rogich, a savvy political adviser who has counseled presidents, said he regrets not walking Rep. Jim Gibbons back to his hotel room on one fateful night two weeks ago.
Rogich had dinner with Gibbons, a gubernatorial candidate, and some supporters at McCormick & Schmick's in Las Vegas two Fridays ago. After dinner, they went into the bar to wait out a rainstorm. There, they were eventually joined by four women.
After a raucous night of drinking in an atmosphere that a restaurant employee told police was "flirty," Rogich walked the candidate to the door, and he said he saw him go toward his hotel, a few hundred feet away.
One of the women, 32-year-old Chrissy Mazzeo, had been sitting with Gibbons and Rogich and accused Gibbons of assaulting her in a parking garage. Gibbons said he was just walking her to her truck, and that she slipped, and he kept her from falling.
"I walked outside, Jim walked ahead of me. I went back in. I went to the bathroom, I paid the tab. I went back outside. Jim was gone. Chrissy was gone," Rogich said.
"Of course I wish I'd walked him to his room," he said.
Mazzeo made three calls to 911 in which she told operators she had been assaulted by Gibbons, according to police reports.
Mazzeo told police that Gibbons grabbed her arms and tried to force himself on her. She dropped the complaint the next day, saying she did not want to start a media circus. She did not recant the allegations or say she lied. She also told police she was not pressured to withdraw the complaint.
Police have said there isn't enough evidence to seek a criminal charge.
Ah, it's Nevada, no big deal, he'll probably win anyway.
