View Full Version : Hutch's plans for TAM5 (subject to change)

Well, there has been much discussion on who/what/when things are going to happen at TAM5, so FWIW here is what I am planning on doing during my stay for TAM, both official and unofficial.

Wednesday, 17 January

Arrive 11:22am, Delta Airlines willing. Pickup rental van. Pickup lunch. At 1:30PM pickup Lynn and Tim (tking, Gaza and vbloke if on the same flight). go to hotel and meetup with slingblade and Mr. blade about 2:30PM.
Check in (and hope room is available). Find where folders are being put together and meetup with other Forumites who arrived Tuesday, find out where gathering places are. Meet others for dinner (not Thai). Possible late-nite--take Scrutinizer and others to Gilley's for Mud Wrestling night.

Thursday, 18 January

Go to Buffet Breakfast at 0830, meet up with other Forumites as are available at that hour. At 1000 meetup with Kitty, poolboy and kittens and walk to Sahara to ride "Speed" rollercoaster, my treat (kittynh's request). Others are welcome to join us, if not ride the thing. Noon to 5 PM is free, unless I am on registration duty, have vehicle will transport if the subject is interesting. Entered in the Poker tournament and have tickets to Banacheck (I think), so evening is pretty well taken.

Friday, 19 January

TAM5 from 0800-1600. Sit with and talk to as many Forumites as I can. Evening will depend on what others have made plans for. Will rely on Basset-hound sad-face and access to seven-pax minivan for inclusion. ;) Do not plan on crashing PJ party, but I just might have a few gifts that, if the ladies are interested, I might be persuaded to bring by the secret location...

Saturday, 20 January

TAM5 from 0800-1600. Continue meeting Forumites (I'll have my list with me and will be checking you off :) ;) ). Dinner is again open to suggestions from others, transportation provided. Forum party that evening, being my usual party self I will probably appear for about 45 minutes and depart.

Sunday, 21 January

Listen to the papers from 0900-1230. Grab a bite to eat and meetup with other folks for the Atomic Testing Museum (~1:30-3:00PM) and The Gun Store (~3:15-4:30PM). Meet rest of Forumites for end of the TAM Dinner (Peppermill?).

Monday, 22 January

Don't know yet. May have something all-day on, if so I may be willing to loan the van to other Forumites (would have to get them on my rental contract) or am open to suggestions. Did Hoover Dam/Redrocks last year so looking for something else to do. Maybe take in a show in the evening.

Tuesday, 23 January

Head back to Ali-bama and work.

OK, maybe not the most exciting plan I've ever conceived, but it is mine for now. If others want to build around it or suggest things to fill my open the open time (with the one exception, I am not planning on being Mr. U-Haul from the airport this year--unless someone asks real nice...) I am all ears.

Anyone else?

My plans? Have a good time and not get caught by security or the wife while doing so.

Wednesday, 17 January

Possible late-nite--take Scrutinizer and others to Gilley's for Mud Wrestling night.

11:51 pm: Take the loser of the matches back to Scrutinizer's room for "consoling" and additional practice.

One problem - isn't Gilley's the place that was next to the Stardust? I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that was being torn down also.

You know, I've checked your itinerary in detail, and I don't see "Getting Badgers pants out of that tree, and going to the police station to bail him out.....again" anywhere.

Oh, and when you do get my pants out of the tree, don't check the pockets. Trust me on that one.

It depends on whether the Las Vegas bail bonds dudes take credit cards or it they need cash up front. I mean, is this late in the week?

I'm afraid, very very afraid.

Plan for Thursday morning, do NOT eat breakfast.

Kitten2 totally excited. Kitten also thrilled.

Pool Boy and I plan to hide somewhere "Oh look Hutch, isn't that Wayne Newton?" and RUN!!!!

No no this will be fun. I just accidentally read the link Hutch sent me that described the rides in painfully accurate detail.

And truthfully kitty, I am trying to be NICE to you and Pool Boy. In the Hutchinson coaster rating system (patent pending), the one I am taking you one is a Class 3 Steel(less than one minute, no high hills, only one loop). The one at New York, New York I rate as a Class 2 Steel, (high hills, multiple loops/inversions).

You don't even want to know about Class 1 Steel or Class 1 Wood...:jaw-dropp :eye-poppi :covereyes

I do! I rode the Speed ride last year and found it to be a tad pussified for the price. I love roller coasters and never get a chance to ride them, so I might be up for riding one of the others this year if anyone else wants to.

Although, if I decide to jump out of a plane, that might be all the thrill riding I need for the weekend.

Well, rebecca, the Manhattan Express at New York, New York might be more to your liking. Big hill, fairly good airtime, about 2.5 minutes.

But for the true rollercoaster junkie, try:

And for my own personal favorite wooden coaster ever...

You're in on Tuesday, right? That's the 4 am "I dare you to get that tatoo" night, and the first time we get thrown in jail (also will be known as "the night of the green speedo.....my eyes, my eyes!!!"). I think Jas and a couple other Canadians are in then too.

Ya, it'd be cool to hang with you. We'll talk about goats.

actually Hutch, I'm a big fan of wooden roller coasters!

I like the "feel" of them.

I will be very brave. I promise!

Start me out easy and I may join Rebecca on something a little more challenging

I can personally vouch for the NY,NY rollercoaster. YeeeHaaaaw!

I am looking for someone to whirl off the top of the Stratosphere with me one evening. Any takers?

I'm going to be there the whole time.

I've never been to TAM though, how do I ensure I bump into you guys? Should I volunteer to help on Tuesday/Wedensday, if so how? I have a car, so I can provide lifts to/from the airport and pretty much anywhere else. How do I offer this service to everyone? When and where is the forum party?

I have horrible visions of me sitting alone in Vegas while two streets away the whole forum is hanging out having a great time.

I am in for any rollercoaster, anytime. Well, except the times that I'm not available for rollercoastering. But otherwise I am in.

*Mattfn is no longer allowed to even look at a rollercoaster. Packs of insurance underwriters appear from nowhere and escort them away.*

Working out the finances, but it looks like Tuesday to Sunday or Monday night. Anything up for Tuesday evening? (besides Badger's suggestions, though I will talk about goats.)
