Congress voted to close down the office of the Government Accounting Office in Bahgdad...closed down today. A demonstration of Congress and the Administration's faith in the ability of American contractors to take-in and spend tax dollars wisely.

I hope Senator Warner pursues this furter.
One of those, John W. Warner, the Virginia Republican who is chairman of the powerful Senate Armed Services Committee, said in a statement that Mr. Bowen was “making a valuable contribution to the Congressional and public understanding of this very complex and ever-changing situation in Iraq.”
“Given that his office has performed important work and that much remains to be done,” Mr. Warner added, “I intend to join Senator Collins in consulting with our colleagues to extend his charter.”
I also note the following:
Officials at the State Department and the Pentagon made it clear that in general terms they supported Mr. Bowen’s work and would abide by the wishes of Congress.
This smells of fish.
Where did you get that his office is part of GAO?
Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, . I don't remember his folks being a GAO det, but my memory could be faulty.
I do note that the Pentagon's IG staff is apparently much smaller than this special office, and could not be expected to cover as much ground as he has.

But they respect the troops.
Who is they? The GAO? Not in my experience. :p Bunch of bean counting *********, but to be fair, they perform a necessary task in the public interest.
