Seven out of 10 children have been bullied at school, a survey of thousands of pupils, parents and teachers suggests. Of the 4,772 children who responded to the survey, 69% reported being bullied, with name-calling the major issue. Among parents, 44% of those who had complained to a school felt their concerns were not taken seriously.
Teachers told the survey by charity Bullying Online that they needed more training to deal with the problem.
Of the 323 teachers who took part, only 40% were confident they had all the skills they needed to address instances of bullying. And 78% thought there should be more in-school training.
More than 71% of parents said their child had been physically hurt by a bully and 30% of those needed to see a doctor.

If that's accurate, the term "epidemic" comes to mind.

I'm not surprised. Whenever I meet a brit, I just can't help myself from bullying them. Sure I feel bad when they start to cry, but it's fun up until that point.

Yep, it's an epidemic. Many people are scarred for life due to bullying. I know I was bullied to the point of suicide at school. For some reason my estimation of bullies has never improved since that time.

Just because you were not badly affected by it does not mean that nobody is badly affected by it.

actually I kinda was, but thats beside the point
IF as the study indicated, bullying was name calling
THEN 100% of all kids always are affected
So the usual premise of tacking a new thing to blame on bush or whoever is bunkified
It has always been so that 100 % of kids are called names
not just since bush
not just in america
etc etc etc

Pehaps the government should introduce a "bully" tax. They seem to think you can solve just about any problem by intoducing a new tax or thirty.

Actually my thought is if 70% are being bullied and at best 30% are bullies that's slightly better than two to one in an immediate trouncing. Even better odds if the bullied take out the bullies one at a time . I'm thinking of removing their clothes and tying them to sculpture, poles and other visible structures and possibly decorating them in amusing ways. Then casually mentioning what will happen if they stupidly try for revenge along with a suggestion that switching schools or taking a nice rest break might be a good idea.
