Ah, finally we have an explanation for hauntings.

I was cruising a bunch of ghost-related sites (I love a good ghost story) in an attempt to avoid work, when I ran across the following. I thought it was too good to keep to myself.

"The Alma Cemetery is haunted for two reasons. One is the people who are buried there and refuse to leave."

There was a guy on the angryorcs forum said he was from Alma, and hung out around the cemetery. He did not seem to have heard of the well story before, but went looking for a well and found one. I would think such an event would be common knowledge locally. In a town of 800 people any disappearing folks would be big news.

The story sounds sort of made up, not even an urban legend.

I think this is just someone attempting to write in a "spooky" style (and failing). Dead person reaching up from the grave and pulling down an impetuous teenager? Jeez, that's not even original. It's a tired 1980's movie cliche.

To be honest, I didn't even read the rest of the story. I was too busy laughing. Those darned dead people. You bury them and they stay put.

"The Alma Cemetery is haunted for two reasons. One is the people who are buried there and refuse to leave."Could it also be because these people are not dead yet?

That's exactly what I was thinking. What do they expect the bodies to do?

From the shadowlands:
Algona - Gypsy Grave Yard - Just north of town is a small graveyard with an even smaller graveyard fenced off toward the back. It is said that when the Gypsy wagon trains would pass through town back in the 1800's, and one of their flock was sick and dying, instead of taking them further on the journey and not having Gypsy hollowed ground to bury them in they would just bury them there, while still alive. Many ghostly figures have been seen hanging around, and if you cross the small fence and walk on the hollowed ground you will be cursed. This is a favorite haunt for the local teens.

I frequent Algona and have asked around about this and no one's ever heard of it so far. I photograph grave stones as a hobby and have visited every cemetery in town and none have a "fenced off section" as described. They do, however, have the world's largest Cheeto.

I vote for cremation to avoid awkward situations and potential law suits.

Tom Green went to America's most haunted house. If you'd like to watch him deal with pesky dead people (and a ghost dog) go here (http://www.nbc.com/nbc/The_Tonight_Show_with_Jay_Leno/correspondents/) and click on the "Haunted House" episode.

Ah, yes, real proof of the existence of ghosts: an inability to keep your verb tenses consistent. (Must be all the confusion about whether you're dead ["was"] or alive ["is"].)

Hmm, didn't see a ghost dog--I think they trimmed it for the Web. Still funny, though.

I also like the parody of "Most Haunted" Saturday Night Live did with Hugh Laurie. Yeah, I know it's sophomoric, but it still made me laugh:
