View Full Version : LC screening canceled in Berlin

I don't know how many folks still read the Loose Change forums, but I still lurk over there from time to time. I thought I'd share this thread.
It appears that the powers that be at Humbolt University Berlin have no problems "telling it like it is" when they refused to screen Loose Change. Here's excerpts from a 2-page letter from the office of the president. These excerpts are posted over at the Loose Change forums.
http://z10.invisionfree.com/Loose_Change_Forum/index.php?showtopic=555
...“The film ´Loose Change´ covers the terrorist acts of ´September, 11th in the USA and makes allegations, that refer to a direct responsibility of the president of the United States and other people within the US administration, but also to people within the economic system and the society.“
„ the film contains racist and discriminating allegations, whose distribution within the public domain can not be supported. Futhermore the distribution could damage the image of the Federal Republik of Germany and could compromise international cooperation. It could also result in a loss of reputation , in case the Humboldt University should be mentioned in this context.“
„The film is a failure, it presents unacademic assertions and prejudices and pretends pseudoacademic evidence, not
scientific in any respect, both in the american science system and in the european science community.“.....
That last excerpt is dead-on. I'd love to know what the rest of the letter said.

If I'm not mistaken, the German government is much more aggressive about stopping anti-semitism (overt or implied) than we are across the pond. (Oliver, anybody, feel free to correct me.) It hardly surprises me that they'd voice this concern.
Good for them.

Good on ya, Germany! Meanwhile, LC is probably still being screened daily in the States in the name of "academic freedom", even Stanford University has screened it for Chrissakes!

The government is, however people aren't (at least in my experience).
Also, the Humboldt-Uni is one of the few that offer jewish studies so it's certainly no surprise.
Being from Berlin I am more than happy about this decision. </back to lurking>

About time some bigger institutions recognize the movie for the misrepresenting fraud it is, and treat it as such.

CT nuts and Holocaust deniners love to spew their nonsense in college/universities newspapers in the U.S. because they hope most undergraduate journalists misunderstand the 1st amendment, which unfortunately is often the case.
Alot of these papers feel that if they reject an advertisement or editorial they are practicing some sort of censorship. What they don't realize is that a free press is not obligated to provide a forum for everyone's views.

That's very well said. My own wife is German, and if there's one thing I've learned about Germans, they're not afraid to tell it like it is. That's one of the reasons why they're not loved elsewhere in Europe. They tend to be bluntly honest past the point where most other westerners draw the line for being honest and being rude.
An example: One of the guest houses in my wife's hometown has on its guest information sheet a sentence roughly translated as, "Morning breakfast is served between 0700 and 0900 every morning and is manditory for all guests." Of course, other westerners would have said that breakfast is complimentary and would quietly tack on an extra few dollars to the bill to cover the cost.

So the Germans were in on the conspiracy after all! That whole thing about Germany opposing the invasion of Iraq was a transparent attempt to hide The Truth™.

No, that's marriage. My wife is not German and she always tells me like it is :)

Yeah, more or less. It has something to do with that episode we had in the 30´s and 40´s. Afterwards some guys from the US reminded us (quite persuasively) to make sure we´d never have something like that again. ;)
I tried to find the full text of the letter. So far I only found whining on German CTer and far-left sites; nothing on the university´s own website.
Those of you who can read German ought to google (through google.de) the terms "Humboldt Loose Change" to see the results. Note how pretty much every link calls loose change a documentary or "critical documentary"...

I don´t know how the berlin air smells but here
at the Rhine it is very homogenous coexistence
with people from foreign countries, many from
muslim states and russia.
I guess it´s more difficult in such big cities like
berlin but politics is and was very attentive in terms
of rassism.

The whole article is in german but they also

I did not mean berlin itself, I spent a few years in the rural east and well, police tends to be somewhat ignorant of racist issues (as an ossi i can say that). I certainly feel safer here in Neukoelln at night than somewhere in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Calling Avery a "director" is like calling me a musician for playing the occasional CD and then burning a copy for friends and anyone one else I happen to meet.

That link doesn´t have the full text of the letter, either... not that I could find it, at least.
Do you think it´s worth a try writing to the university and asking for a copy of the text?
