I was watching Bill Mahar on Larry King last night, and was a little stunned to hear Mahar out Ken Mehlman (Republican Party Chairman) as gay. I knew Mehlman was gay and only semi-closeted -- or at least that he was thought to be, but I'm not accustomed to hearing major political figures outed like this.

But today, I am even more stunned to find that CNN actually censored this out in its rebroadcast. I wonder how that editorial decision was reached. How far up the chain of command at Time-Warner does that go?

Isn't his name Maher? What does "semi-closeted" mean? I too find the censorship curious.

By "semi-closeted" I mean that it's known to people in Washington and to political junkies like me who read lots of sources. Mehlman though, to my knowlege, never publicly discussed his sexual orientation.

Heck, here in Florida, we voted in someone (he of the great hair and tan, Charlie Crist) who is also reputedly to be gay.

Big deal.

When I was younger, I use to argue with my gay-bashing (words only) acquaintances that gay males are great. They skew the female/male ratio in us hetero (manly) men in our favor.

Still thinking you can bang the lesbians, eh?Heck no. When I was younger and stupider I forgot to factor in the daughters of Sappho. I'm sure the ratio of female/male is still about 50/50 regardless of sexual orientation ....

Damn, I wish that had come out a week ago if true. I personally could care less if he is - but it's 4 more years of Bush crap from the slimeball and an out on that would likely have changed the election to a real person.
Since I prefer honesty, I will do that here - to keep him out, I really wouldn't care whether it was true or not as long as it had come out in time to stop him (it's not personal, it's I live here.)

The Crist rumors are just that, rumors. Even if he is gay, he certainly is presenting himself now as gay-friendly. He's biggest asset in the last election was getting the nod from Jeb.

PS Florida seems to be hard-core Republican, no matter what. 1.4+ million voted for Catherine Harris. Now, she's a piece of work.

Harris also described the separation of church and state (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_church_and_state) as a "lie we have been told" to keep religious people out of politics, and stated that "God is the one who chooses our rulers."[50] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katherine_Harris#_note-floridabaptist)

Ah, it's good to be back (for a little while, at least).

Bill Maher is a douche, no doubt about that. Joseph Wilson also made a comment about Mehlman's gayness. I just want my goddamn Congressman to get a national outing. His name is David Drier, and he chairs the Rules Committee. Thankfully a few months from now I will only say he sits on the Rules Committee.

I believe that you just correctly quoted Katherine Harris's Plastic Surgeon ;)I wouldn't fess up to being that plastic surgeon. I wouldn't consider her "my best work".

About 6 months ago she was complaining that newspapers "purposely" doctor her photos to make her look ugly. The Orlando Sentinel responded and claimed "we do not alter pictures".

I never fully understood how some gays can be Republican. Why support the people who oppose your own lifestyle?

And the dems as a whole support gays?

Maybe gay republicans aren't single issue voters? Maybe they see more pro-growth policy coming from the GOP? Maybe they think democratization of the middle east is the only way to stabilize it and fix the roots of terrorism in the long run? Maybe they don't agree with universal health care?

Maybe gay republicans look beyond their gayness in the short term and realize that years down the road the party will be more accepting of who they are.

Any experienced reader of Star or the National Enquirer knows you don't have to doctor photos -- you just look for one where they're caught mid-blink, about to sneeze, or so on, and suddenly you have a picture of someone who's high on drugs.

Look for a picture where they're stepping down, landing, and presto! You have a picture of ripply thighs.

No alterations necessary.
