This weekend there is a "alternative convention" her in Norway, where all the strange people who believe they can see ghost and whatnot get together to amaze each other. Among all these people we find people like mr Ola Moldestad (25) who believe we all have "helpers" around us.

There is an article (http://www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=178647) in the Norwegian newspaper VG, some excerpts (translated):
- Everybody has helpers, but not many can see them. I can both see and hear them when I want it. All I have to do is to lower my brain frequency, and then they come.

He says it started after his father died, with voices from afar. After being sent to several psychologist, he met Margit Sandemo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Margit_Sandemo) (known Norwegian author who believes in all kinds of stuff) who explained it to him.
- Then I stopped being afraid.

He even has his own website, utdrivelse.no (http://www.utdrivelse.no/) ("utdrivelse" = "exorcism").
Some claims from his site:
- Can contact dead members of the family.
- Gives advice and messages "from the other side"
- Healing
- Opens blocks in chakra
- Works with finding missing persons. (Needs an object from the missing person, to "tune in". Will not take murders cases.)

There is even a poll on the newspaper site, where the question is simply:
"Do you believe in spirits and helpers?"
So far, after more than 800 votes: 55.29% Yes

Sometimes being Norwegian is embarrassing...

That sums it up pretty well, doesn't it? :D

I thought you guys up north in Europe were more level-headed and down-to-earth than us southern folks. *sigh*

We all have our crosses to bare -

Just one example of why being American can be embarrassing ;)

I thought so too, but it seems like we have our fair share of woo believers like everyone else.

Update on the poll: 54.89% believes in ghost. Total votes: 1716.
(Link to the poll (http://interaktiv.vg.no/avstemning/?action=vis_resultat&id=3960))

Here's another great quote from mr Moldestad:
Its about being able to see in to other dimensions which coexists alongside our own. Anyone can do this, but it is easier for those with an open mind. Other put up blocks. Those need years of training, often several years.

I also find it amusing that due to lack of space, they're using two circus tents as an addition to the hall.

It's in the circus these people belong.

Rather convenient of them to gather in all in one place.

As of december, I will be living even much further in the south - Spain. 95% Catholics, if I remember correctly. I'll have some input for this forum then, I guess :)

Please don't forget your fellow anglo-saxons on the British Islands. The wind will transport the fallout their way if you nuke Denmark :D

Now the poll shows 56.24% "Yes" for believing in spirits. If that was representative for the Norwegian population (5652 has voted), that would mean that 2 624 951 Norwegians believe in this stuff. Oh well, not really surprising, thinking that 86% of us are members of the state church.

Interesting fact about Norway:
In order to form a government, more than half (currently at least 10 out of 19 members) of the Council of State are required to belong to the Church of Norway. (source: Wikipedia)

Unfortunately I don't live in Oslo where this convention is held, because it could be fun to meet all the people there. An idea is replacing the name of the convention with "WooCon".

Ditto.

Seems to me most of the woo is concentrated in Oslo. At least, there's very little of it in my area, Ålesund.

Well.. Mr Olav Moldestad who was a big part of the article in VG lives in Langevåg just outside Ålesund. So you don't have to travel long to meet a healer/spiritist if the need should arise.

Too bad his website is only in Norwegian...

Don't worry :) Many politicians want to separate church and state, but many people look upon it as "a nice tradition". I'm hoping for a separation in the next 5 year or so.

The Church wants it, the parliament majority wants it, but it's still hugely unpopular. Bah!

In English, it looks like "ultra drivel."

On a poll from the same newspaper, 61.97% wish to separate church and state. At least it's more than the ones who believe in spirit guardians :)

According to wikipedia, the average brain frequency in humans is one per human.

About "helpers" (also from his site):

There are several kinds, but the most common are monks, nuns and (red) Indians.

Wikipedia is not a reliable source of information. I'm pretty sure the true frequency is much lower.
