I received the following email this morning:
Friends,

Tomorrow, the United States Supreme Court is scheduled to issue a ruling on
a landmark gay rights case, Lawrence v. Texas. This case challenges the
constitutionality of Texas's "homosexual conduct law," a law that
criminalizes sexual activity bewteen persons of the same gender. The outcome
of this case could have far reaching implications not only for the legality
of sodomy laws in other states (like [Missouri]), but also could have implications
for other laws that treat people differently based on sexual orientation, or
laws that impact rights to intimate assoication. Missouri is one of four
states (Texas included) that criminalizes sexual conduct between members of
the same gender only. The ACLU's litigation challenging Missouri's sexual
misconduct law is the only other current litigation in the country
challenging same sex only sodomy laws. The outcome of that case is pending,
waiting on tomorrow's decision.

Whatever the result, tomorrow's Supreme Court ruling will have a major
impact on the future of legal rights for gays and lesbians. Coinciding with
similar events around the country, there will be a community rally tomorrow
evening at MoKaBe's [a local St. Louis coffee shop], where we'll chat briefly about the decision and its
impact, and generally come together.

For more information on the gathering at MoKaBe's, contact **** [PM Upchurch if you are local and want more information]

We'll post information on the decision as soon as we can tomorrow. Tune in
to Fox 2 News at 9 p.m. tonight for a news story previewing the court
decision.

Stay tuned!
I don't follow legal or political matters often or closely, but this seems like a pretty big intrusion into the personal lives of a lot of folks. Is there any constitutional/legal support for these kinds of laws?

Okay, it looks like their are already a few threads on this issue. That'll teach me to look before I post. Regardless, maybe this thread could be about protesting it or something. Or maybe it's just a redundent thread.
