View Full Version : How do Muslim fundamentalists stand it?

The thread regarding "Muslim swimming times" at the Croydon baths (would that be a public pool, btw?) gave me the guts to bring this up.

I assume that there is a fair number of conservative-to-fundamentalist Muslims living in non-Muslim countries. I understand these people consider it an immodesty bordering on obscenity for women to leave their hair uncovered (if I'm wrong, that completely obviates this thread, so please tell me right away if that is the case.)

My question is, how do the men who subscribe to these beliefs deal with day-to-day life surrounded by so many women displaying their hair? Do they live in a state of constant rage at such sluttish behavior? Or unrelieved arousal? Or what?

This is just a guess - but I think Islamic men live under an entirely different set of rules. Women are oppressed and kept that way through religious law (which is the only law), but the men can be a little looser. Don't forget, a couple of the 9/11 highjackers were at a strip club prior to their evil deed.

Since I consider fundamentalists (of any religion) to be whackoffs, I assume they....

My mom visited Iran prior to the attack on the USS Cole. She said the further away from the government centers you got, the looser everything became. She wore a churidar (Indian/Pakistani dress of loose trousers covered by a loose long-sleeved tunic with a round neck, and worn with a very long scarf). No one gaver her any grief about having uncovered hair. Her female guide wore a head scarf and a tag saying she was a guide. In the towns, everyone was very 'modest'. In the provinces, there were cafes with women unvieled, and a guard outside who would give a head's up if someone official was outside so everyone could cover up again.
