Personalized Forum Shirts Are Here!

As I mentioned in the recent Newsletter (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=68441) we would soon be ready to start to sell Forum T-shirts and they are ready to order from today!

And it's not only T-shirts, there are many different styles including long sleeved variations, even hooded tops and many different colors and color combinations to choose from and as the headline says these are personalized shirts, your Forum name can be added to the logo.

<div align="center">http://forums.randi.org/images/forumshirts/threadpicture.gif</div>

<div align="center">The shirts start at $23.99 and you can view all the various styles and colors by clicking here (http://forums.randi.org/images/forumshirts/forumshirts.html).</div>

Since this is a Forum that values critical thinking and facts let me put our cards on the table:

We want your money!

Each shirt ordered will raise about $9, that might not seem a lot considering the price of the shirts but to ensure there is no additional financial burden for the JREF we have had to find a solution that requires no initial financial outlay and does not add to the workload of the already over worked JREF office staff. All the work involved in setting this up has been done by Terry and tkingdoll and tkingdoll has volunteered to do all the work involved in fulfilling your orders.

As to why we need to raise money, a word from Jeff Wagg, the JREF's General Manager:

Thanks to the contributions of all our Members and volunteers the JREF Forum is constantly growing, and we have more than doubled in just the past year. However, this has not come about without growing pains, the Forum is costing the JREF in excess of $5000 annually in server, bandwidth, and administrative costs and this is growing all the time. To help ensure we can keep the Forum operating and free to all we need to raise money. By purchasing a JREF Forum shirt, you can help the JREF financially, spread the word and of course look utterly devastating in the stylish new Forum shirt.

Thank you for your consideration.

[Monty Python Parrot Skit Voice]I wish to file a complaint.[/Monty Python Parrot Skit Voice]

I don't want my forum name to appear on my tee. I want "SkepticReport".

Or something else, like "Darat Is A Witch. May We Burn Him?"

I will throw a hissy fit, if this request is not met with a favorable response.

Shirts are cool and I want to order mine, however, when I go to pay for the shirt it is looking for a total in pounds sterling and the prices listed on the forum list are in US dollars. This is like the poor Mars Climate Orbiter ;)

I assume it's the text only? And that the extra colors required for putting on the avatar would be prohibitive?

What -- you can't put an animated gif on a t-shirt yet??? :)

Looks nice.

If you would prefer a Forum-branded shirt with no username, please type BLANK in the forum name box of the form.
What if this poster (http://forums.randi.org/member.php?u=7757) wants their name on the shirt?

tkingdoll
13th December 2006, 11:30 AM
Then we'll have to hope everyone else is smart enough to use ALL CAPS to type "BLANK" as instructed...:P

Anyway, he's in Finland. If I get an order for a Blank in Finland, I'll email him to check. Or if he wants a shirt, he'll have read the instructions and might email to warn me. Or he might end up with no name! Hilarity could ensue.

Perhaps I'll PM him...

Hello, Teek?

Hello Wollery! :D

Am working on that, by which I mean I'm going to see if I can find a really, really nice USA person who will be prepared to take delivery of a few UK people's shirts and bring them to TAM. Of course, if anyone reading this thread wants to volunteer, I will be delighted and relieved.

cafepress have a size guide here:

http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/help/help_sizechart.aspx

Their washing instructions are:

Apparel (includes t-shirts, sweatshirts and baby items)

You might notice that new apparel products feel stiff. Don't worry, they will soften after the first wash. We suggest:

Wash in cold water

NO BLEACH
Tumble-dry with low heat
If necessary, warm iron inside out

As far as I can see, all are 100% cotton, and the men's ringer shirts are pre-shrunk.

If you could put an avatar on the shirt it would be SOOOOOOOOOOO cool.

It would be cool, but because of copyright law, we cannot reproduce avatars. And many people change their avatar from time to time, so the shirt would become dated. But having your name is also very cool! What other forum offers that? None, that's how cool we are.

I should mention that any t-shirts ordered from today (26th Dec) onwards are fairly unlikely to get to you in time for TAM, although I will try my best to process them as fast as I can.

However, that shouldn't stop you ordering your shirt anyway, because there is always TAM6, plus photos of yourself on the forum wearing it will be most welcome!

Just a quick note folks:

A few people have been asking where their shirt is, I just wanted to confirm that there is a five day processing period from when you first order (to allow time for your name graphic to be created and your bespoke t-shirt ordered). Then normal cafepress production and shipping times apply.

However, in the run-up to Christmas, cafepress had a 12 day delivery time, and then new year which would have closed everything down for a few days.

I have checked the order statuses and most are showing as dispatched, so hopefully they'll be with you in the next day or two. Thanks for your patience, and in the mean time if you have any questions please do email forumshirts@randi.org.

Cheers!

In addition, I am leaving for TAM today so won't be available for queries about t-shirts until my return in one week, although I will be checking my PMs here whilst away so any urgent messages should be directed there.

And of course you can corner me at TAM in person if you're going!

Hi chaps,

I am once again forced to admit to my stupidity. I'm kind of new in these parts, but I want to support the JREF. The donate button I found today - no probs there, and I will, as soon as my latest cheque clears. I was however trying to order a t-shirt - and that is more problematic...

I can find the P&P, the order file, etc, but the latter order thing makes clear one must have got the Paypal receipt first. That's fine, and I know how much to include for international P&P - but I can't find anywhere the cost of buying the actual t-shirt i desire in the first place. Can I find out before submitting the form? For here is my problem - to submit the form I need a paypal receipt, but I can't get that unless I know how much to pay, which I think the form submission may tell me? HELP!

I have spent a while looking, and now feel so dumb I almost did not buy one on the grounds I clearly don't deserve to wear it.

Also, just as an aside, if i was to support the JREF by applying as an associate member or similar, do I take on financial liabilities for paying out on the million dollar challenge? I'm out of work at the moment and can't take on real financial risks against my families security. I worry enough about feeding them! I'd love to support the JREF fully though - maybe I'll just keep donating a little a month? :(

Just a quick update to say a couple of people are waiting for their shirts - I have identified a technical hitch in the cafepress process with the changeover from a premium shop (only needed for the pre-TAM rush) and a regular, free shop.

I am sorting this out as we speak but will have to re-order the few shirts that were ordered in the past few weeks.

I'm very sorry for the delay and for any inconvenience this has caused, I will keep you informed when your orders are re-processed.

Soapy Sam

cj. You would need to contact Jeff Wagg or Linda re the liability question, but I've been a member (when I remember to send the money) for several years and nobody ever said I was liable for anything. the famous $million is in a special account in the States. Basically the capital can only be used for the challenge, but JREF largely operates on the interest, so the dosh does exist. They won't sell you into slavery. But if cash is tight man, put it on your kitchen table where it belongs.

Just some additional detail: I placed the order on Jan 31st, for a total of $28.99, through PayPal, to you. This was for a green t-shirt. Hey folks,

Quick update: Cafepress closed the shop (sigh) and wouldn't let me open another one with the correct email address, after much to-ing and fro-ing I have reinstated the shop but any orders I placed before they shut it have not been processed. I have to reprocess anything that was ordered since TAM, which I am doing slowly but unfortunately it's been one of my busiest weeks work-wise and I've not been able to dedicate the time needed to do the whole lot in one go. Each shirt is created manually, it's a lengthy process.

This is partly why we've closed the offer for now, until we have a more automated process in place. But all outstanding orders will be fulfilled this weekend - guaranteed!

De_Bunk, I don't think that anyone is worried about the money. We're just eager to get our shirts. Some of us placed our orders over two months ago. I can tell you that, if I cared about the money, I would have asked for it back by now.

I'm with you on it being too bad that the sale is off for now. I hope that it gets sort out, too. It's a great idea, and there was obviously a lot of enthusiasm over it - it's that same enthusiasm that keeps me hopeful that I will get my shirt.

All outstanding orders have been fulfilled, some are showing as dispatched and others 'pending' - dark shirts take a bit longer.

Jackalgirl, Cafepress closed the shop because I was using a 'premium' shop on a free trial as that's the only way to order more than one version of the same shirt. However, when the free trial ended and I hadn't input any payment details, they closed the shop and took everything with it.
