Athiests are gay like goths? Oh come on. That forum should be force-fed some logic Gerber style.

What did you expect? I had to work Christmas Day and at one point the phone rang, and after the moron on the other end ascertained that we were open, he went on a rant about how I was a godless heathen condemed to hellfire for all eternity and that I, personally, was making baby Jeebus cry and so on and so forth.

I had customers so I couldn't let him have it, however, one of the customers I had was a local preacher and he's a regular customer and he was glad we were open, so go figure.:xmas0638

Oh. I thought this topic was going to be on the nature of ignorance, like is there a difference between ignorance and stupidity, or whether you can actually become more ignorant as time passes.

As to the latter, I can vouch for the fact that I have discovered more about my ignorance as time passes. There have been whole new fields that I have found I am almost totally ignorant of.

I don't think the comment means gay as in 'homosexual', I think it's the newer meaning of the word which means 'lame'.

I know, but I think use of gay like that, coming from a hip hop forum, still does carry a connotation of homosexuality to it.

Perhaps I'm being a bit biased, but I'm okay with that. I guarantee I know more about hip hop than most of the brats there, and I wouldn't put it past the person who said the horribly irrational analogy to be one who would put down gays.

There is ignorance, and there is stupidity.

My relativist, secular, subjectively opinionated definitions are that ignorance is simple not knowing something, while stupidity knowing something and either (a) ignoring it, or (b) distorting the facts to fit your own agenda.

"Athiests are gay like goths?" -- I'm still trying to figure that one out. Either I'm completely ignorant of the connection between homosexuality, the belief in no Creator, and the penchant for dressing in black; or the person who uttered those words is stupid.

Unfortunately, while ignorance decreases with one's increase in knowledge; stupidity seems to be evenly distributed throughout the population, regardless of educational background, culture, politics or religious persuasion.

Fnord, "gay" doesn't necessarily mean homosexual any more. It is now used as a general term to mean "lame" or, perhaps, "different from myself and therefore worthy of derision".

So it's still an insult, but not about sexuality.

Oh, don't you remember the part of the Gospel where Jesus proclaims, "Thou shalt not work on the pagan winter holiday that shall eventually be co-opted for the commemoration of My birth"? It was right after Jesus and his disciples picked grain on the Sabbath.

I'm an atheist and I'm gay. So I guess that proves it or something.

I once heard a homosexual say, "trying to ban homosexual marriage is so gay."

What the heck does SOHH stand for anyway? So Oft Hip Hop? Bah, I'm terrible at these kinds of puzzles. Anyway I looked at the link and this is worth quoting.

atheists are like a rapper that wants to get famous by dissing a more established rapper, most people only know them for that and not for their talent, that's a sad existence to me

They've got more replies there. There's a small argument between and atheist and a theist.

I registered to this forum before I saw this thread, and am "awaiting activation." I don't know if I'll watch or get involved. I have a feeling I'll run into a bunch of these guys: http://redwing.hutman.net/%7Emreed/warriorshtm/ferouscranus.htm

No ... I think that your single, partial coincidence is well below the statistical norms for establishing the hypothesis as fact.

Sorta like finding an explosive squib on a shelf in a New Jersey armoury does not make it the 'smoking gun' that proves 911 was faked.

Besides, you didn't say you were Goth, either! (A "Gaygotheist"?)

Joining in on the fun would be an interesting idea. I tired to register but the forum name Grandmaster B was taken! I mean how can I join a hip hop forum without a decent name? Bah I'll just use some latin gibberish as name. I'll reply too when they activate my registration. Should be amusing, can't be any worse than this: http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=63587&page=59

In one of the responses, the guy says, "Go ahead and pray, what have you got to lose?"

Well, nothing, as long as it doesn't turn out that God HATES prayer and instantly condemns anyone who does it to everlasting Hellfire.

It's the little discussed flipside to Pascal's wager.

Yup, I got involved. I was very reasonable considering some of the replies in that thread already, but I'm still confident I'll be flamed.

Sort of bumping. I just wanted you all to know I'm pretty much awesome. I liked my one reply so much I think I might make it into an essay. It's a cool summary of the evolution of philosophy, among other things.

You can nominate yourself for the language award, you know, though it loses a bit of its luster.

Nah theres no use for an awesome award. I'd get it every time. That's why they stick to language awards, because im no good with language.

As you say, when God gets abstracted to a feeling, or a way of viewing reality, there's not a lot more to do. Some people find that a useful approach, others don't (I include myself amongst the latter). When you move out of the testable arena, there's not really anything to talk about.

He agreed that there was nothing further to explore in the argument. I was going to resort to the purple people eater deity, but thankfully I didn't have to play the game anymore.

I once heard a homosexual say, "trying to ban homosexual marriage is so gay."

Nelson (the bully on The Simpsons) was kissing Lisa when his buddies come by and start ragging on him. One says, "You kissed a girl! That's gay!"
