View Full Version : Can someone bring me some Scharffenberger to TAM5?

There's a group of people in my office who love chocolate (then again who doesn't - and anyone who posts that they don't like chocolate is just a heathen anyway :p ). I told them about the Chocolate Challenge that we had at TAM and they want me to bring back some of the chocolate that won previous Challenges. From my recollection at TAM3 that was Scharffenberger (I think it won at TAM2 as well). Not surprisingly you can't get Scharffenberger here in Qatar.

So if any TAM attendees from San Francisco can bring a small box to TAM for me I'd appreciate it. Just let me know how much it is and I'll give you the money at TAM.

I'm pretty sure he's just stationed there with the military, and probably gets very little exposure to the local language.

Nope, I'm not in or involved with any military. I'm an accountant working in industry.

Yep. Most people here, including Qataris, speak English with decent fluency and all signs are in Arabic and English (even the currency!). And since most service workers are from India and similar places they don't generally speak Arabic either, which is a key reason why Qataris learn English. I tried ordering coffee in a restaurant in Arabic (Qah'wa Americano beduun sukkar, min fadleka) and the waiter didn't know what I was saying. I figured it was bad pronounciation on my part then I noticed that locals would walk in and order in English as well, they didn't even try to order in Arabic.

Wa alaykum asalamu. Ana la afhem 'ireed' wa 'etheb'. Ana adrus Arabi a little.

Thank you for that a.real.girl. Dark preferably - that's the category Scharffenberger won at TAM3.

Oh, come on. "Scharffenberger?" That's a nonsense word frm a Jerry Lewis routine, right? Nope, it's for real. It won the TAM2 Chocolate Challenge. I know; I counted the votes. My contribution didn't even make it into the top three. :(

I can grab you some before I head out to TAM - although I believe that there are severla locations in LAS that sell it as well (e.g. Whole Foods).

What flavor/size do you want?

Thanks, but a.real.girl already got some for me. If you're going to the forum party though you might want to bring some along - it's good stuff! :)

I've already picked up a chocolate bar for the party. It's not Scharffenberger, but it's pretty good. I'm curious to see peoples reaction to it.
