Just finished watching an excellent documentary about Billy The Kid. The guy in his last few years attracted quiet a few alternative theories about his actions and ultimate death.

Seems during an 1880 jailbreak, a gun just happened to appear for his use at the right time. A shooter just happen to know when he would be escaping jail, and attempted to assasinate him

Ultimately there was a gentleman claiming to be the Kid, and to not have died as history recorded

The Discovery Channel did such a documentary about a year ago. I never saw it, so I couldn't tell you if it's the same one, but from my understanding the guy did have quite a colorful life.

It was on the History Channel here in Australia - The focus of the show was an investigation to see if the current Governor would give him the pardon that was originally offered.

And yes he did have a rather colourful life. And although a bit of a bad egg. I dont think he was totally to blame for his actions

He was, to some extent, a product of his times and of his environment. There was definitely a bit of "bad egg" mixed in there too, though. AFAIK, there were two gentlemen who, many years later, both claimed to be Mr. The Kid. DNA tests on their remains (compared to descendants of Billy's relatives) showed neither to be.
