View Full Version : Do you remember, Breakfast at...

Hutch
9th January 2007, 06:06 AM
...well, not Tiffany's, but I was thinking about eating (as anyone who has met me knows, I do think about that a bit...;) ) and Thursday morning looks like the only time that the Forumites present can congregate at breakfast (Friday and Saturday there should be food available as part of your Conference fee and I think also Sunday morning). And eating at a Buffet in Vegas is one of those things people do.

Supposedly, in the few reviews I read, the Riveria Buffet is somewhat better than average, nothing spectacular but better than the Stardust. Breakfast is served 7-11am and costs $10.99 plus tax (estimated $11.86). And unlike the Stardust, they will take reservations for 10 or more; otherwise you get seated where they want you to sit.

My thought is that the Wednesday arrivals (those who can crawl out of bed after Wednesday night) can meet for breakfast at, say 8am (does that sound ok?) and go in as a gorup (I will take the responsiblity of reservations). This allows us to be seated in the same area and gives us the ability to move around from table to table without much difficulty, meeting additional folks.

Need your thoughts on this. If most of you don't plan to be awake by 8am, then we'll pass, but it seems like a good chance to mingle before the mob of TAM attendees descend upon us.

Awaiting your opinions and appetites...

Great, now I have Deep Blue Something in my head.

And YES, I totally remembered that without looking it up. And yes I know that's pathetic.

Mmmmm... brunch. I'll check with Mr. Ottle but that sounds good to me. Although 8 am?! Yikes! :)

I am up for breakfast buffet on Thursday. I agree with Ottle 8 am, yikes. This is a vacation, sleeping late is a favorite for vacations. As it is for the rest of TAM I will be violating my no getting up early on vacation rule :p

What's all this stuff about sleeping late? Sleeping? Hutch, I bet I could make it. Screw it, let's eat at 5am. That's about when I'm ready to refuel.

Hutch
9th January 2007, 07:18 AM
rebecca, I normally eat breakfast at 5am M-F, but unfortunatley they dfon't open until 7am...

OK, how about 9am? I said 8am because I am supposed to take kittynh and family on a roller coaster ride and wanted to give them time to digest, but I guess we can be flexible as to the rollercoaster time.

9am for breaking fast?

Count me in for 8 or 9.

But make sure I don't sit next to Rebecca.

ottle

Mr. Ottle and I will be there - 9 works better for us but if 8 is consensus, that's fine too - I don't really plan on sleeping much!!

I shall make the effort to be awake at 8 am Thursday just for y'all.

Because lord knows that nothing else seems to get me out of bed at 8 am.

LostAngeles

I'll be out of bed by 8AM on Thursday, but it'll be to go to class.

I'll see y'all that night though.

You know, if this expands the way the Lotus dinners did, maybe we could have 2 feedings - 8:00 & 9:00. That way we could keep whatever tables we have.

SkepticScott
9th January 2007, 01:40 PM
It's a buffet, so people could just come and go as they please. There's no need for fixed seating times.

Boo
9th January 2007, 02:04 PM
Oddly enough after checking both the official and unofficial activities list I couldn't find sleeping anywhere on the list, therefore I'm presuming I shall be awake Thursday.

I may not be coherent but I'll be there.

I keep getting the song OUT of my head and then I come back, read the thread and it comes back INTO my head. It's happened like 5 times today!

I tend to want to agree with you Scott, but last year at the Stardust they had someone escort each party to a table and some of the help got a bit twitchy when we got up and moved to a differnet section.

Just seemed easier if a bunch of us went in as a group and knew we had a area set for us. Then others coming later could tell the hostess "I'm with that loud and rowdy group that is throwing bagels at each other..."

Plus I am an organizational junkie--comes from 20 years as a Logistics specialist... ;)

My apologies. It just seemed a catchy way to have people click into the thread, I did not mean to cause mental distress...

Brunch! Oh yeah count me in too! Oh wait...I'm not going. :( Well somebody eat an extra croissant in my memory then.

SkepticScott

I'll eat a croissant for you, but I draw the line at eating a dog biscuit for the supercorgi! :)

It just happened again.

Maybe I should quit messing around online and go home... yeah.. that seems like a better idea.

Assuming
a) The fog lifts so I can get off the damn rig.
b) I make it to LV by Wednesday night.
c) I wake up at all on Thursday.
d) I'm not doing something official- I'm some kinda volunteer.

I'm in. But only if they have pancakes. I do like American pancake breakfasts. And...would there be grits, or ****on a shingle?

If I recall correctly grits were on the buffet I'm not sure about the sos though, pancakes were well represented.

PS: How will I know who is with TAM? No really...

How will I know who is with TAM? No really...From past experience, there will be people wearing shirts form previous TAMs. I expect some Forum shirts this year. We'll probably also be the biggest group there, and definitely the most rational.

That is quite the accomplishment, considering I knew it, too. I guess we're equally pathetic.

And, yes, I will now have this song in my head until it is replaced by another mid-90s pop-rock outfit.

Me too if there's still room. 8AM is fine and then I can eat another round at 9AM (Or more realisticaly somewhere between and stretch it out. Hey, that'll be noon back here- I'll be hungry!)

Hutch

Alright, I have read all the opinions and suggestions and bowing to the will of the people...

I'll do what I damn well please (hey, this GW Bush thing ain't hard at all) :p :D :boxedin:

OK, here is the plan:

I will make reservations for 30 people (we may have more or less, but it looks like a reasonable number) for 8:30 AM at the World Buffet. The name it will be under is "Forum Group" (alternate is "Hutchinson", if they won't take Forum as a name).

I will be in the area outside the buffet at 8:15AM for meeting-up (I'll have a JREF shirt of some type on and there shouldn't be more than five or six 6'2", 270 lbs, balding and bespectaled guys hanging around outside the buffet. :eye-poppi Once we get 15-20 or so folks or it hits 0830, we'll go on in. Folks coming later can just ask the hostess to seat them with the Forum group or if they don't know, just look around...somehow I think people will be able to figure out who we are... :covereyes

Anyway, that is the plan. it may not be a good plan, but it's mine, I like it, so adapt! :D :D :D

You recall this is in Las Vegas?

If there is room, and I've managed to get up early enough to put the parts of my spine back in their places for the day in time, I should be there. That's definative, isn't it?

I doubt I'll be able to do the buffet justice, after doing L'Aureole the night before. However, assuming I am conscious and presentable at 0830h I'll mosey on down. Don't put me on the res list Hutch - I'll probably just stop by under the guise of 'checking out the buffet to see if I really want it' and say howdy, chuck a few muffins at people, attempt to steal pieces of bacon off plates etc...
