I have a client who claims to have seen "orbs" on a building that we're working on.

Funny thing is, I worked on a lot of historic buildings and ancient monuments when I was training, and I never once came across anything at all eldritch or fey. Ho Humm.

It's just that it's been debunked 100 times over and yet even with rational explainations has to why it shows up, it's still believed. Recently I had a friend and she believed her house she rented was haunted because others said so. She and her roomates were scared to death in the house and claimed to hear footsteps sometimes in there rooms. Well they just had to call the local ghost buster group to investigate it, and of course it turned out to be haunted because of the orb photos they took. All of which were centered around the dining room ceiling fan, imagine that. After hearing her story and about how scared she was I came over and found the dryer on in the basement. And behold it sounded just like footsteps coming thru the vents in their rooms. I brought my digital camera and took shots in the same area the ghost dudes got there alleged orbs. I turn on the fan and then turn it off and low and behold dust bunnies (alleged orbs) filled the
air just like ghost dudes photos. Finally proving to 3 scared ladies there were no bogey men in their house. She contacted the ghost group who said I was wrong. the pictures they took were spirit orbs and they needed to bless their house because their sensitve was sure the spirit was evil.

Seriously, how does some one display a photo like this and immediately propose "ghost" or "angel" with a straight face?

I've had lens flare make all kind of odd looking effects show up on photos, and at that point you break out a lens hood or a polarizer instead of calling Montel  . This also looks manipulated to me. If I wanted to take a photo with lens flare and jazz it up a bit, I'd use masking in Photoshop; hypersaturate a layer to get the purply color, cover it with a normal layer, and bring just the flare through to the top and you would be able to create an effect like this.

I once took a picture of my sister using a flash. By sheer luck, dust motes created little shiny things near her shoulder that happened to look very much like a smiley face. It must be ghosts. The fact that I rarely dust my living room can't possibly be relevant.

It's something one could only believe has paranormal if you saw the ghost with a can of pledge and dust rag. I swear these paranormal groups
just can't get any other evidence so in truth it's the best they can do.

It sure has been debunked time and again. I think that some people, though, really like being part of something "mysterious". Maybe their lives are too mundane or something, but they just don't want to hear any rational explanations.

For example, I work with a guy who lives in a low-rent apartment building. It's one of the oldest buildings in town, a converted hospital, in use at the time of the post-Great War Spanish influenza pandemic. The former morgue is apparently rented out as living space. Obviously, a great place for "hauntings". One of my co-workers teasingly asked him if he'd seen any ghosts. "Not yet," he said, really excited, "But I hope one shows up!" No doubt if anything slightly unusual ever occurs, I'm sure we'll hear all about the "ghost", and any attempt at rational explanation will be ignored.

Apparently, Sylvia has never been to a psychic, because she says she's content not knowing her own future.

Has anyone read an explanation of why she wouldn't be able to see her own future? Is that a common thing among psychics?

I've heard more than a few supposed psychics say something like that. The only time I've heard an explanation, it was some vague thing involving energy and vibrations. Go figure :)

I'm sorry, but this leaves such a bad taste in my mouth I must request confirmation. To suggest that the victims of these, or any other tragic events, chose, in any way, shape or form, their fates, is one of the most repugnant statements imaginable! Only a total [rule 8] scumbag could even think such a thing.

I just have to see it for myself. Can you provide source for these statements please?

Friendly advice: You get more and better responses to your theads if you give them more descriptive titles. Some posters have slow connections and don't open threads unless they are sure it is a topic they want to discuss.

You can get a really nice effect with a tiny pinch of coarse flour. Use too much and it doesn't work so well. You just end up looking like your room is overrunwith orbs. Alternatively, go grab some fine dust from somewhere out of doors. That shouldn't be hard.

All you have to do is put some on a surface that you intend to photograph, blow hard on it, and take your pictures. Oh yeah, use a flash :) Take enough photos while the debris is still airborne, et voila, les orbes fantomatiques.

Enjoy.

I was able to find this answer to the previous question of why psychics can't see their own future:

Question:

If psychics are real why can’t they foresee their own future?

Answer:
Think of it this way, just as a psychologist or a doctor can not be their own patient. They are too close to the situation to see what’s really there. A psychic may see what they want to see rather than what the reading is really saying. Destiny occasionally plays a part as well. When you know the future you have a chance to change it, some things aren’t meant to be changed – so it won’t be made known. We are here on this planet to learn life lessons. Predestined life lessons cannot be interfered with.

That's a direct quote, misspellings, poor grammar, and all. I can't post a link to the source but it's tarot-rita dot com / faq dot htm

Funny, as the list of doctors who have performed (successful) surgical procedures on themselves is surprisingly long. But, maybe they were predestined to do it, who can tell anymore.

I also found this, which is sad, but still dang funny:

I didn't see it, says mugged psychic

Barbara Cole
January 09 2007 at 12:42PM

Psychic Carole Peach, who foretells the future for other people "through a Red Indian guide", could not see it coming that she was about to become another crime statistic.

She had no forewarning that a mugger would reach through the open passenger window of her husband's car, punch her in the face and grab her bag containing two wallets, R2 500 in cash, bank cards, her telephone and ID books, two cellphones and her heart tablets.

Peach and her husband, Peter, were in Warwick Triangle and on their way to St Aidan's Hospital to collect medical results. The attack took place while their red Jetta was still moving.

Peach, of Bellair, immediately leapt from the car to give chase, but says that nearby taxi drivers blocked the way to prevent her getting to the mugger.

"One driver then began yelling and swearing at me to get out of the way or he would drive over me. I don't know if I was scared or angry, but you don't want to know what I shouted back."

The couple drove to St Aidan's, where a kind stranger gave them R2 to telephone their daughter, Angela, for help.

"I just want people to be aware when driving through this area. I had just drawn the money and was so traumatised I forgot to put that in my statement to the police."

Peach, a medium who does predictions on Radio Lotus, said that she was a "transreader" who helped people through a Red Indian guide. "He talks through me," she explained.
