View Full Version : IMO : The James Randi Affair

I'd been a lurker of this board for a long time. One of the topics I followed was "The Carlos Swett affair" (http://www.randi.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?postid=425750#post425750) I never understood why the thread was locked since it was still on debate.
In Mexico I had the opportunity to view the video tape One of my friends works on one of the biggest networks of this country and of the world.
When I saw the tape I finally understood why the James Randi Educational Foundation has the fear to comment about this topic :they failed under their own skeptical rules.
I am really dissapointed , since I am a skeptical beleiver , of how the researchers and the followers based their investigations in just some links of the web.
It is another story if you look the images at a proffesional tape IMO.

Yep USA, it's sad. Carlos' claim fails on so many levels, I think it is more likely that this new poster is Carlos or (if latin really is another person) latin.
Unless there is something about Spanish speaking people from the Americas being drawn to this fecked up claim that Carlos thinks is paranormal.
It is really funny to me in a sick kinda way.

If you got two of those wind-up monkeys with the cymbals, and put them face to face and let them go at it, you would have a more intelligent debate than what occurred in that thread. There were some valid points being made, but they may as well have been made to a brick wall.

Dear Increadulo,
If that is your real name, why are you here.
You could make the challenge by making a dead horse walk.
So what is this proof, for those of us who are new?
And why should you give a flying fig about it?
Your post is better written than any of the suspects , so what are you trying to say. What is your point?
Are you just a troll?

Dear Troll,
It does not matter what is on the tape. The protocalls for the challenge were not followed and IMO (and apparently the opinion of the JREF) there was nothing to test.
But then you knew this already...
Now go away.

Incredulo (if that is your name), I talked with Carlos at length, both on this board, in the IRC chat room, and over MSN messenger. Trust me, he has no understanding of the scientific method or of the JREF challenge. His complaint relies entirely on a misinterpretation of one phrase in the page introducing the Challenge; anyone who's actually read the rules defining the Challenge knows that Carlos is wrong. It's that simple.

This is exactly how Carlos operates. He is goading all of us into doing nothing but keeping this thread going.
Nothing productive will come of this. He will continue to ask stupid questions that you will feel obliged to answer reasonably, which will only prompt him to ask more stupid questions, ad nauseum.
He is not interested in resolving this. He only wants to waste your time.
Go respond to something else. Please.

Both Latin and Carlos are members of my forum. Carlos posts quite frequently. If you think it is one of them, you can inquire there. Indeed there is a flame thread just started about this very issue.
Carlos requested I post a rebuttal on JREF which I did in this thread.

As Hal asked me not to post Carlos' post, due to him being banned I will not repost Carlos' response here. However, all are welcome to engage him on my forum.

True, but to what degree does one "choose" one's level of rationality? I am suggesting that people such as Carlos are highly unlikely to ever become more rational.
Also, I'm not so sure this is Carlos; he was always very annoyed when other people used sock puppets or otherwise didn't fully reveal who they were, so it would be out of character for him to present himself under a different name.

Incredulo Hal did not say it was against the rules. He just presented it as further evidence that you are Latinijral.

- You have the same typing style as Latinijral.
- You take up Latinijral's topic right where he left it.
This is called strong circumstantial evidence.

Of your four posts, one is here, one is in the welcome thread, and one is in a thread about an "image" in a photo, and one is asking for information about people who have made paranormal claims.
May I ask for your comments on this? Any theories or evidences?
