I used to teach a course in graphic design. I created the graphic that I use for my avatar to demonstrate something. I wonder if anyone can guess what that is?

I'm guessing it would be to demonstrate the shading effects of using a directional light source.

I'm thinking the answer needs to be more religious or philosophical than that for this forum.
Althought hat would be my guess too :)

Good guess but no. I'll give you a hint, it is applicable in graphic design but I chose to post my query in Religion and Philosophy
And thank you for ensuring that I got at least one guess.

Firstly, I'm completely at a loss what your avatar shows. But however, it looks as if it was significant.
Perhaps you used it to show that sometimes something just has to look "mysterious", significant or important to open up speculations about what it could mean, even if it doesn't mean anything at all?

Does it have anything to do with the Holy Trinity being like a 3-egg omelette?

I always thought it was a stylized ' Club ' symbol.. ( playing cards )
I also see ' eggs ', although they look more like ovoids rather than true egg shapes..
Nothing philosophical comes to mind.. But ' obvious ' allusions have a way of becoming more obvious with hind sight...
I await your explanation with curiosity..

As I looked at it critically, it shifted. It went from three eggs and another shape to a clover? cutout hovering over a white field.
edited to add: The direction of the light reverses with the shift in perception. As eggs, the light is coming from the right. As a cutout, the light direction is from the laft.

The little shape in the bottom left of your avatar looks as though it fits between two ovoids. Has the graphic anything to do with showing how shapes pack together?

Excellent observations all.

I always thought it was a stylized ' Club ' symbol.. ( playing cards ) And you are both right, well it's "supposed" to be a shamrock But why did you think that?

I await your explanation with curiosity.. Answer the question why it looks like a shamrock and you will have your answer.

So it's about perception then - how people project specific meanings onto nondescript shapes arranged in certain patterns?

Is it capability of abstraction? Oh yes, as well as the concrete. But I am only looking for a single word that deals with both. You are getting closer.

I think Watson is Welsh extraction. I also have Scot, English and other assorted British influences in my family tree.
