Pictures don't download

My IE 6 suddenly doesn't download pictures from websites. I opened the browser and only the first picture on the home page (a newspaper) loaded. At the bottom of the browser it just said "Downloading picture at http://...(etc)". And nothing else happened. I tried changing to other sites and in every case no pictures were downloaded. The sites came on screen as fast as they usually do, just without the pictures.

After reading a thread on here, I downloaded AdAware (yes, I should have done so a long time ago!). I ran the AdAware which found 20 entries which I "quaranteened". I then downloaded SpyBot. Coincidentally the download speed suddenly shot from 70Kb/s during the download of AdAware to 370Kb/s when I downloaded SpyBot. I ran SpyBot which discovered a few more nasties which I removed.

I then opened my IE again and suddenly all pictures were downloaded. Haleluyah....I thought. Because as soon as I changed to a new site, no pictures were downloaded. Which is still the case, no matter which site I access.

Any thoughts on what the H is going on?

I once had a problem w/ some adware/spyware that neither Adaware nor Spybot could get rid of (though they did detect it). I finally bought a program (Spyware Doctor) that got rid of the bugs, it was well worth the $20. The free stuff only does so much.

That said, I don't know for sure if it is spyware causing your problems or something corrupted in your version of IE.

Woohoo! The pictures suddenly came back. Not through any of the things I've been tinkering with, but all by themselves! Very odd, that.

I'd been tinkering with various things, checking its effect after every change, gave up and left the computer (turned on) for a few hours. When I just now came back, there they were.

And thanks for the info, WildCat. I've definitely been neglecting my Internet safety, having just originally installed Zone-Alarm at left it at that.
