A independent film version of E A Abbott's mathematical satire Flatland has been produced, and excerpts may be seen at the producer's website: www.flatlandthefilm.com (http://www.flatlandthefilm.com/). It looks interesting, but at $20 per DVD, I'm debating whether or not to buy. I loved Abbott's book when I first read it (a text version may be read online here (http://www.ibiblio.org/eldritch/eaa/FL.HTM)), so it's tempting. The producer is in the process of trying to obtain a theatre release.
Another movie version is at an earlier stage of production, which uses a more cartoon-style animation and features a bigger name cast which includes Martin Sheen. Its website is at at www.flatlandthemovie.com (http://www.flatlandthemovie.com/). I'm not sure what the state of play is here, since the website shows no news for the last year.
ETA: I misread the chronology on www.flatlandthemovie.com. (http://www.flatlandthemovie.com/) They are targetting a release date of May 2007. According to their website, the movie is part of an educational DVD for use in the classroom.
