View Full Version : Some more frakking woo: Do you see 11:11?

Damnit...why is it that any little coincidence gets blown out of proportion?
Ever notice noticing the time XX:11 or XX:XX (eg, 10:10, 12:12, 11:11, 01:01, etc..) a lot? I used to look at clocks and keep seeing times ending with "11" in the minutes section (digital clock of course). I thought something weird was going on, but I realized that I was having a classic case of selective memory. This experience of seeing ":11" has stopped for me.
But now, I go on facebook (facebook.com-social networking site that used to be only for college students but now is open to everyone and is so much much better than myspace) and I see there is a online user group dedicated to the number 11:11...I do some research and I come up with this load of crap: http://www.1111spiritguardians.com/ Have you heard of these people? They say strange things happen at times such as 11:11, 12:12, etc. They say angels are the cause of these events and message.
People...why is this happening? I can't believe there are people that believe such flim-flammery.
I'm getting depressed.

I find the fact that I see 11:11 at least once a day to be more annoying than paranormal.

I used to a lot and I would always make wishes on it. I also used to wish on stars too.
I noticed in retrospect that I stopped doing that b.s. once I got out of a really b.s. relationship.

Been there, done that, years ago.
Uri Geller: The Number Of The Fleeced (http://www.skepticreport.com/psychicpowers/uri11.htm)
On his web site, Uri Geller has a list of things he connects with the number 11. He believes this number to be all-important. E.g. he attaches meaning to the fact that some people have noticed their clocks sometimes show the numbers "11:11". Read why Uri thinks Harry Potter and Jesus Christ is involved in the World Trade Center attacks.
Sheesh, will someone entertain me with something new?

It's never 5:00 around here. It'll be 4:55, and then suddenly it's 5:05!
It's an angel-controlled time warp, driven by modified WMD's, and powered by thermate paste and psi-wheels! I can't prove it, of course, because the Bushites have locked up all the evidence beneath Area 51-Gamma and won't return my calls, which would be tapped anway, despite all the aluminium foil I have wrapped around my telephone.:hypnotize

Let's see...a little math:
Minutes in a day = 60*24 = 1440
Subtract the time you sleep (Let's say 11PM to 6AM)
1440-420 = 1020
Ratio of those two time points (11:11AM and 12:12PM) to the total
1020/2 = 510
If we assume that interesting things happen to you at random times of day, the odds of that event happening to you at 11:11AM or 12:12PM are 1 in 510.
You odds are twice as good if you stay up past 12:12AM.
Not impressed.

Yeah, but the real spooky thing is the time zones! I mean, what if some time zones are more likely to have things happen at 11:11 than others? And what if strange happenings from one time zone leak into another, such that the other time zones would also experience increased happenings at 12:11 and 10:11?

Just think: in just under 5 years, it is going to be 2011. That year, we will have 11/11/11. So twice on that day, it will be 11:11 on 11/11/11. I don't know, but I have a feeling it's gonna get crraaazzzyyy!!!

From the site in the OP:
Sometimes you will even see these numbers flashing after a power outage, even though digital clocks are supposed to reset to 12:00, not 11:11 or 12:12!
In my experience, digital clocks, non-battery powered, flash the time they were displaying at the time the power went out. Wait, I get it! Angels cause power outages! It makes so much sense!

I used to see 11:11 a lot as a child.
Of course it might have had something to do with a bored child wearing his first digital watch and waiting to file back into class after morning tea ended at 11:10.

Kilgore!! Come back!!!!!
I always thought that if I saw 11:11 on the clock that it meant I was watching the clock too much.
Ironically I was in the car with my kid the other day and it was 11:11 and she touched the clock for good luck! I looked at her like she had 2 heads!! I had heard that when I was a kid and I guess it's just one of those things that will be handed down forever somehow...I never told her that!!
Aren't ya glad that time doesn't allow for 6:66?

11:11 is the name of a great Rufus Wainwright song. It's also a 'special' time between me and hubby because he tends to call me or text around midmorning, and if it happens to coincide with 11:11 one of us will point it out.
Of course we don't 'notice' that time more than, say 14:28 or 09:16, it's just that it's all 1s so it stands out. No other time looks that striking (pun intended).
Dem peeps just love patterns.
Oh, we also like to point out when it's 00:00 - because it gives us the opportunity to say "hey, it's ooooooooh!"
