OAKLYN, N.J. - An alleged plot by three teenagers to kill their enemies and then target other victims at random unraveled when they tried to carjack a motorist and were arrested, authorities said.

"We could have had a disaster here in Oaklyn," Camden County Prosecutor Vincent Sarubbi said Sunday night after police said they uncovered the trio's cache of guns, knives and swords in this small town near Philadelphia.

Matthew Lovett, 18, was arrested along with two boys, ages 15 and 14, whose names were not released. They were charged with weapons offenses and attempted carjacking. An additional charge of attempted murder was expected to be filed against the trio, authorities said.

Lovett, who is accused of pointing a gun at the police officer who arrested him, also was charged with aggravated assault, Sarubbi said.

Authorities seized two rifles, a shotgun, two handguns, two swords, several knives and 2,000 rounds of ammunition. Additional weapons were found at Lovett's home. Sarubbi said the weapons belonged to Lovett's father and were legal.
Sarubbi said the attacks had been planned over the course of several months. The suspects intended to target people at random once they had attacked specific victims, police said.

I blame that heavy metal-ica music. All the songs are about killing people and murder.

No, it is all that crack-head rap music these kids listen to and the public school system. That is what is turning these kids into sociopaths.

I'm sure it's one big misunderstanding... a wacky set of events that played out somehow. One big silly mistake.

We can almost laugh about it now! :wink8:

I blame that recycled sewage they call drinking water in Jersey. These teens probably have mercury poisoning.

Actually Jedi, these kids went to fundy christian schools and were going to kill these "enemies" for their failure to accept Jesus in their hearts. (http://www.whitehouse.org/)

Yes, that link had nothing to do with my claim. I'm just being a jerk. Speculation is fun. I also heard the kids listened to The Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" album 34 times before they set out to do their killing.

That would do it.

Let me see if I got this right.

Car-jack suspect points gun at officer.

Officer doesn't shoot him.

Do I detect a lack of survival instinct being demonstrated by both parties?

Trio charged over Matrix murder plot

Matthew Lovett was known as an angry young man: he dressed all in black, drew violent pictures and walked around town with a baseball bat.

Acquaintances said the American teenager kept a list of people who had teased him as far back as grade school.

Early yesterday, Lovett, 18, and two other teenagers were arrested on charges they plotted to kill three teenagers and open fire randomly on other people with a cache of guns and ammunition they were carrying.

Lovett was being held on $US1 million ($A1.48 million) bail.

People who know the teenager say Matthew Lovett not only liked the science fiction movie The Matrix, but also dressed the part, often wearing all-black clothing and slicking back his hair.

He sometimes referred to himself as The Mystic, The One or Neo in homage to Keanu Reeves' Matrix character.

The Matrix eh.
