Driving to work this morning I saw what looked like three suns rising in the east. It was so cold that the ice crystals in the air produced what we call "sun dogs", reflections of the sun on either side of it, and quite a ways away. It is pretty impressive and beautiful. I've only seen those a couple times before.
It may be enough for some people just to say, "It's pretty." But I think knowing at least a little of the science behind it gives me a lot more appreciation for how it is formed.
